I think the scene with Yuki and Sachio very beautifull, i hope he end the anime living with her. The final blow of Joe, when he defeats Burroughs with a counter and you see everybody looking surprised, even Yuri, it was simply amazing.

I saw symbolism with Nambu taking out his eye and that one mob boss who was eating the fish it seem to focus a bit on the fishes eye.

I don’t quite understand why people are saying that this series is boring just because the fights are predictable .Almost every anime is predictable nowadays. The Character development and background of sachio , nanbu and joe alone was the greatest thing I have seen so far this anime season.Just because of this it’s worth watching this anime.

I think you’re interpretation is very sound and I love it but I have an alternative perspective. Joe only wore the gear when he was being controlled , when he was being made to throw fights , and as you see the gear break and fall apart it is joes past self – the Joe that would throw fights getting shredded away – that he will no longer be junk dog . But instead he is now and forever GEARLESS JOE .
But that’s just my view.

Nanbu is the best character of this show so far. I literally had my jaw dropped to the floor when he kicked those mafia guys asses and gave Joe the green light to fight for real.

Brief mythology: Hercules was tasked to defeat the Nemean lion. The lion’s hide was impenetrable, deflecting arrows and sword blows. After realizing his sword was ineffectual, Hercules defeats the lion by grappling it and straggling the lion. The lion is then skinned and worn by Hercules as an armor.

If you remember the actual story of the scorpion and the turtle, the scorpion stings the turtle half way across the the lake, killing them both. so Joe wasn’t the turtle in this, the Mafia is. Nanbu sunk the ship he was on, just to kill the captain, and that make him the true MVP.

Hell yes, episode lit as fuck! Glen vs. Joe was awesome, although the fight was epic I was a lot more impressed with the situation upstairs concerning Nanbu. Him letting go of what he would use to witness what he wanted most…..as long as Joe could make it…..that hit me. Nanbu stung the snake and himself at the same time, to ensure Joe’s future. He believes in Joe, with or without his eyesight.
Then when Yuri came down…..man shit got intense! I was so relieved when he came though……cause I knew it would push Joe beyond his limits.

I felt Sachio’s rapping was also a very powerful moment to the episode. I immediately rewound and watched the scene a second time. It finally put words to a silent song and made the usage of the fight music more relevent. It showed that he finally was able to set aside his vengence and care about others fully even if they may not feel equally to him.

the amount of cringe that’ sachio’s rap gave me was fucking insane and no one is going talk about how every boxer is a fucking glass chin or doesn’t know how to fucking box because if you don’t use your legs when you punch how the fuck is that boxing dude come on what is this fucking Injustice 2 now

Can someone explain why the mafia wanted Joe to fake a loss so badly, in what way does tht equate to making more money
whoa-oh! we're half way there, whoa-oh!
July 29, 2019 @ 9:08 am
I don’t think it was supposed to be a Hercules thing with the lion thing. I believe it was simply a Lion vs a stray dog and the stray dog coming on top against the king of the jungle.

I think the dog at the end is barking at Yuri because he is no longer seeing him as the strongest assuming that Yuri is now afraid of how much Joe changed over the course of the tournament and is now doubting his own fighting skills .I haven’t really seen the dog bark before in the series except for Mikio Shirato ?

Regarding Nanbu…
Nanbu, like the scorpion riding the frog, tried to ride on Joe’s back to achieve his personal goals, ie. get out of debt.
When he learned he would never get out of debt, and that he only needlessly dragged Joe and Sachio into it, Nanbu knew he had to do something. Something he would never do.
As someone said, Nanbu made his own bed. He couldn’t expect Joe to take his place.
So, instead of acting like the scorpion in the story, Nanbu stung himself in order to let the frog (Joe) survive.
Nanbu acted against his survival instincts because he realized he would never be free, regardless of how many people he sacrificed.
Instead, Nanbu needed to sacrifice himself to give Joe a chance at tomorrow. By doing that, he was able to overcome himself, to overcome his nature.
p.s. Sorry if this seems like incoherent rambling. Hangover and writing don’t mix, I guess.

There are a lot of animal symbolism going on here in this show, Yuri is like a loyal husky or maybe wolf, Joe is like a wild stray dog, Joe fought a boxer this episode that fashions himself and acts like a lion, Nanbu is likened to a scorpion … i do love this kind of symbolism.
