I think it’s a bit unfair to say you’ve seen other shows do similar plots better than Banana Fish when it’s source material is 33 years old. And queer baiting nor BL existed in the 80s. If anything Banana Fish is sometimes considered a predecesor of the BL genre.

I do love the half screen you guys have started doing for Happy Sugar Life and Revue…giant CEO-is-not-amused face just glaring at them. (I’m assuming it doesn’t look as much like a glare when he’s not scaled up to three times their size, but…)

With Planet With I’m pretty sure the Pacifist Faction is more about teaching people to be responsible with guns, to continue the metaphor. In that way Kuroi using a gun to take away the guns that have ended up on Earth due to the Dragon is in fact how they are intending to prove that the Siriusians are capable of using guns responsibly and continuing on the path of love. Also the gun that Kuroi has is because he’s a Siriusian, who had just developed guns and were using them irresponsibly (i.e. for entertainment or taking someone else’s resources) so it makes sense for him to be using a gun which his people developed, although Nebula may have increased it’s caliber or given it an extra barrel or something (the gun is psychic power, the mechas are a manifestation of that).
Gun doesn’t look like a word after typing that.

The biggest shame is killing off Banana Fish right now after ep 7 …and that is right before the mid point arc that changes the whole story and takes everything in a different direction. As a fan of the manga yes I can confirm that having nothing to go on in ep 7 was dry but also as a fan of the manga I cant wait to see the mid point arc happen.
Truth be told you haven’t seen anything yet what makes Banana Fish such a great series all the best things happen after the mid point aka in the 2nd half.
So as a long term fan , I beg off you give ep 8 and 9 a chance.

I think that Kaoruko winning against Futaba in Starlight is justified. For me duels and fighting in this show is a metaphor for resolve, determination to get to the top at that moment. And Futaba hesitating over that small trick when Kaoruko tries to "drop out of the duel", shows that her resolve is still lacking and that’s why Kaoruko manages to overwhelm her after that moment.
Basically Futaba still has a good heart and cares for her friend, and that is a serious weakness in these auditions where only one person will remain at the top. I think it’s a good and believable twist and doesn’t negate all the build-up that Futaba’s character had. She still worked hard and her work shows results, but she is not "top star" material. I just wish that the conclusion could’ve been a bit harsher and darker if it’s supposed to be a commentary of real theater/entertainment industry where i am sure that manipulating others for your own goals is a thing.
Sad that you dropped Revue Starlight. I guess if it doesn’t excite anyone anymore it’s fair to leave it from discussion, though discussion about this show were my favorite part of this season’s lineup and i was hoping that you would carry that till the end.

It honestly bothers me that Revue Starlight died and yet Happy Sugar Life lives. Oh well, I’m still along for the ride. I still Wakarimas. It just seems that the FMK acres couldn’t Wakarimenos.

for planet with: pacifist faction wants people to work towards love evolution instead of violence. love allows guns, but it’s not the be all end all. they take away the guns, but not the potential for evolution. sealing faction wants to seal the potential for violence evolution races by filling the gaps in their hearts (which was what the weird giant floating things did). basically, sealing is like: "you’re not even going to get the chance to invent gunpowder."

About Planet With… I think it’s not about weapons, but the intent behind using them. The Sealing Faction wants to seal emotions, neutering the will to fight (or be passionate about anything). The Pacifist faction wants to preserve that passion, but have people CHOOSE not to channel it violently.
For me, this point is driven home with the geek pilot that was transformed into a complacent normie. "Something inside him died", I think were the words Kuroi said about him afterwards.

I will miss this show a lot.. Thanks for doing it, I’ve watched more anime this past year than I have my whole life because of you guys. It was really nice having a solid source for finding new anime each season without having to watch grade A garbage to find it. Look forward to what comes next, please consider a season end recap of what you chose to watch!

As everyone aligns and gives up on Revue Starlight not telling a story well enough (which hey, I can’t complain as I don’t have HiDive so I was never watching it), Ben gains hope for Planet With. I’m perfectly okay with that tradeoff.

Hey Kirran, if you want anime based on American crime, you should try Riding Bean or Gunsmith Cats.
