DEMOLITION D+ reviews Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (although techinically it was Evangelion 3.33 as it was the blu-ray version that I watched). Really hope you guys enjoy what I put together here, as always be sure to leave a comment/send me a message suggesting what anime movie or series I cover next.
Also, just in case you were wondering, the subs I used in the three parts where I added subtitles were based off of UTW/THORA’s translation, so big shout out to those guys and the great work they do.
Music used (in order of appearance):
Valentin Wiest – Sphinx
Portishead – The Rip
Phantom Power – Last Resort
Evangelion 3.0 is copyright of Khara and Gainax and I do not claim to own it. Under fair use it is my legal right as a content creator to comment and criticize any piece of artistic work as I see fit so long as it is transformative in nature and does not impact the potential market negatively.

What can i say about the rebuild series………..well if Anno is really trying to recreate the entire depressional thing ,that was filled to the bone, in the original series, is completely stupid.
He cannot recreate that masterpiece because that was created during a particular moment of his life, honestly i dont want that this dude is trying to be depressed again just to be in the right mood to finish the rebuild.
Lets face it, the whole thing about the rebuild is about how much money Hideaki made after Evangelion, and he is just trying to get even more, as much as i want to see the "mustnt run away kid" be finally happy and get a good ending to his story, still the original ending its one of the most creative and beatiful masterpiece ever made in a animated series.
Honestly im quite disappointed for how the rebuild series is going, the first (just to see the first episodes to get some badass animation) and the second (slight changes, some good like making rei a likable character, others bad like asuka destroyed as a character and the introduction of mari, which was and its still unnecessary for me) were fine for me but the third was a mess.

EVA 2.0 I enjoyed more than 3.0 but also 1.0 because it was pretty vibrant in many areas, just had a pretty dumb last 30 minutes. EVA 3.0 seems not to know what direction to head for.

I finished 3.33 this morning for the first time (just binged Rebuild after rewatching the original), and I think Anno’s still got it. The point seems, to me, to be that this is a simultaneously new and alternate timeline. One in which Shinji gets to fight against fate/causality head-on rather than be played like a fiddle by it like in the original timeline.
So it’s both literally and figuratively a new version of the story for a new age. Methinks Rei and/or Misato is going to be saved, though whether in a BlazBlue way or a DBZ way is yet to be seen. Heh.

Are there actually subhumans who only watch and like the rebuilds? There is nothing wrong with enjoying the films but Evangelion is only good because of NGE.

I watched all of the EVA series: the original series, The End, and all three rebuilds in a really short period of time (long story short I had never seen it and this was a gap in my anime education my friends would not tolerate), and to me 3.33 strikes me in much the way that a really good fanfiction would. There are some changes that seem a bit out of line, some characters that are a little bit out of place. But overall, it’s really nice, it’s a cool take on the series (possibly a sequel, I think it is), and it is really enjoyable. It’s super flashy, which I admittedly enjoy in a film with giant robots, and boy does it have a nice ship (seriously Kaworu and Shinji’s relationship is, hands down, the best one I have seen in anime thus far in that it is built up in such a short period of time and yet makes you feel so. Damn. Much). Watching it gives me the same feeling that I have when one of the stories I follow updates and the new chapter is everything I had hoped for, and more. I love both the rebuilds and the original series, and like Demo End of EVA is one of my fave anime films of all time (if not my fave, Ghibli gives a lot of competition there). I’m really excited for the next one and hopefully it comes out soon… eventually.

If you take a look at the small changes and parallels between the rebuilds and the original run it really does seem like the rebuilds are what take place after the 3rd impact in end of Eva.

Shinji isn’t even sure what the hell happened. No one says anything to him and the only one who did was Kowaru. Afterwards, he ends up freaking out and having a panic attack with the realization of what he did. 3.33 is about Shinji having to deal with having almost destroyed the world, AFTER being psychologically abused by his father to do it.

I kinda enjoyed the movie, but I consider the Rebuild series as ”emotional fanservice”. The story lacks the dark atmosphere of the original series, where characters just couldn’t connect on a human level without hurting each other. Instead, we see characters interacting much more. I actually like how they portrayed Kaworu-Shinji relationships. There are just 2 major things I don’t like about this movie:
1) the lore. Evangelion universe had established rules. Those rules were established throughout all the 26 episodes of the original series + End of Evangelion. Now, they came up with new shit, but 1 hour and a half could not explain any of it, so I was left more clueless than the End of Evangelion.
2) What Shinji does (almost causing 4th impact, and ultimately leading to Kaworu’s death). So, he trusted Kaworu completely, right? It was Kaworu that told him that he should pick up the Spears to restore the world. But when Kaworu repeatedly says ”Wrong Spears, abort mission! Abort abort abort!” Shinji picks them up anyway.

I’d like Demo to respond to "The Curse of Evangelion". I think it answers his criticism by laying out a plausible intention for why Rebuild is the way it is. It’s intentional, and meta-textual. And just like EoE; *it’s directed at the audience.*

I feel like Eva and Anno are like Star Wars and George Lucas. At some point we are better off putting the series at the hands of other people that actually respect and give a shit about the franchise, the characters and what they represent and mean to fans.

1.0 improvements made to the original but lack of character development.
2.0 major changes to the story still characters lack depth but it did change a few moments that made me call back to the original and the hand puppet creeped me out not to mention I was expecting an EOE sort of thing near the end only to have it be cut short in an exciting way and also pink girl is strange.
3.0 was alot of new material to go through but characters turn against shinji, Asuka may have been angry for his actions in 2.0 and also cause she had feeling for him, dont know how that will play out, he wanted to save rei but couldn’t I guess and Kaworu was a nice guy who cared for him when everyone else didnt want to and after his only friend left dies he blames himself for it even if he was forgiven by Kaworu and then hes just being dragged through the desert after being used by his father like a tool and has lost his will to live and Asuka must be tasked with bringing him back alive so that he can receive his punishment for basically almost wiping humanity twice while rei tags along to probably not have that happen and to find herself again as rei not clone rei.
4.0 or at least the first 10 minutes of it is just setting up the plot that the characters are gonna have a last stand against Gendo to stop instrumentality and shinji will probably find his will to live again and reset the world probably.

On episode 26 when Shinji experienced an alternate slice of life type moment to show him one many different posibilities his life could take… I often just like to assume the Rebuilds are just him during Instrumentality seeing another what-if life and at the end of the final film he’ll wake up to the EoE and everything will be great again.

well this was way better then the first two rebuilt movies. first one
was basically a recap of the first 6 or seven episodes of the tv series
and the second one was dumb af but had some great action.
at least this had some suspence in the first half and some amazing imagery and way better cinematography then the first two.

Oh yeah lets shove this 14 year old kid into a giant robot to save the world. Oh he’s actually doing it? cool. Oh, he fucked up while trying to save his friend? Well fuck him.
Why the hell do they even bother bringing him back just to ignore him? to be mean to him? Did they need him for something? Wouldn’t it have been useful to be nice to him if not for anything else but so that he stays loyal to the WILLE?
The characters of 3.0 just make no sense to me.

This movie feels more and more like they just put the original series in a blender, put some sprinkles on top and then just made a horrible hangover mixture only passable to either die hard fans or completely newbies.
