Love the Daria reference but lets make a thing clear here. Daria is wayyyyy better than any of this shitty knock offs.

Someone link the Dom to or send him the surviving recordings of the American adaptation ‘Death Note: The Musical’. It’s the only thing worse than this and I want to see his brain break when he sees/hears it.

I personally didn’t mind it *too* much because I went in not expecting much. But one of the great things about this, is that it exposes more westerns to anime and manga. I’ve met several people who asked my opinion on the death note anime and manga, and gave it a chance simply because of the Netflix adaptation. I agree with your ideas on what would have been better though.

The thing is light means Luke so if they had called him Luke Turner at least that would of made sense……Some what.

I am a gifted student and the reason I like the manga and anime versions so well is because I can look at them and think, "We have something in common." Even though we do have something in common, my giftedness isn’t nearly as powerful as L’s or Light’s, so it’s interesting to see how giftedness can affect a person depending on how severe it is. It’s also even a little scary knowing that Light and I have something in common yet he spiraled into madness due to his own powerful convictions.
Netflix movie versions of L and Light… ugh. Their intelligence is so forced it makes me want to throw up. You hit the nail on the head, Dom!

2 names based on “Light” they could pick: Flux and Flash.

Yes! Next time someone wants to do a reboot, just do a not-too-tied-it-sequel! That makes so much sense!

Dom I don’t hold it against you for giving your thoughts on how to do it better. In some cases I like you probably hate people for thinking they could do better cause they didn’t like it and try to make their own cake and eat it scenario. However unlike those people you try to justify the changes and turn it into what you can honestly believe was supposedly intended by the film makers or would be vastly better structured and possibly more entertaining in the long run. However we are both guilty of hindsight and our own opinions/biases. Something as analyzers we need to be mindful of as hard as it is. Again I like this new story concepts you put forward and it’s stuff like this that I will keep in mind.

Looking back at this and the way American politics is going.
I think it really was a political thing. Everything has to be diverse otherwise its racist, or normative. Which is a word extremists use negativly.
Basically we, as a country, just want to be more PC and diverse. Even if it means ruining a medium.

One thing I don’t understand about anime they make their characters with brown hair blue eyes or blonde hair and green eyes but yet they’re supposed to be Asian ?

The only thing I can thank this for is the fact that because it was on Netflix with almost no reference to it’s source material, my dad ended up watching a movie based on an anime. (he is a very big anime hater in the "not real art" group)

THANK YOU!!! The end part about how you would’ve done it is exactly what I thought from the moment the movie came out. I mean CONE ON! This could’ve been SO MUCH BETTER!!! Of course there would be the "he’s not as smart as Light!!!" crowd, but they’d be a lot less significant and a lot less based and justified. Those new American kids could’ve been a decent sequel instead of an insult to the original.

Netflix it seems that they would do a sequel to this movie. I really don’t understand why. This movie was complete shit.

Americanise… make it simple.
Westernized… make it more relatable to a western audience.
Which is it?

The creators had admitted that the only reason Light got his comeuppance was because the manga was picked up to be turned into an anime, and in order of not spoiling the ending for newcomers, they’ve elected to continue it.
In short, Light wins. And as much as I love them, Mello and Near really shouldn’t have existed in the 1st place

Fun fact in the death note one shot they introduced a death eraser so you could reverse a death but obviously it was removed for the final version also to this day death note fans insist that light became shinigami when he died

12:52 Just caught the music in the background of this bit. Was it just coincidental, or was that a deliberate subtle homage to Youtube horror/mystery channel "Bedtime Stories", using the same music as his opening? If so, bravo and very cleverly done. If not, I recommend giving him a watch, he does great stuff.

The 2006 film and The Last Name. That’s how you make a Death Note Adaption. It changes a few things to make it better for a film, but also kept it recognisable as Death Note. Only changing things when necessary.
The Tv Drama. That’s how you change it enough to make it a different story but with the same premis and characters. Yet it had kept the original charm and what had made it good.
This film tried to be both but ended up being neither. I am disappointed in you Netflix. You’re better than that.

Someone needs to film that idea at the end, I don’t care if it is official or not, that story probably would have been a lot more popular than the the typical Americanized reboot we got….

L backstory in the manga is far better where he was only in that orphanage for geniuses just cause is was the closest to him when his parents were murdered and no one knew he was a genius until he solved it a few days later.

Why The Dom, that idea to make it as a sequel was positively smashing. If I were a movie maker (As I unfortunately am not) I would ask to use it. However, I still believe that it is a great idea.

and here i am.. the one guy that LIKED the NETFLIX MOVIE MORE THEN THE ACTUAL ANIME AND MANGA, because Light in the Source was UNBELIVABLE anoyingly Unkillable(well till the end where he did die) and infailable.. he did ONE mistake himself in almost the entire Plot… ONE.. and that was laughint to early…every MISTAKE made on kiras side was made by one of his underlings/companions.. nothing he did did go wrong because L was smarter, no it did go wrong becuse someone else fucked it up…which wasnt the case in this Version. making it a lot more enjobale to watch
