I forget the name of the literary technique in which a powerful character is built up so that his defeat at the hands of a new threat lends more gravity to said threat, but I think Light’s "easy wins" were setup for that trope. He was always on top of everything, and winning so easily, to help punctuate the moments when he gets caught off guard by something unexpected, or by someone whose intellect is at least as great as his own. We’ve seen three moments where his composure cracked under that kind of surprise challenge. The first was L’s Lind L. Taylor gambit and subsequent mocking. The second was when he was trying to figure out how to kill Naomi Misora before she could reach Taskforce HQ. This was the third. Each moment had more dramatic weight because we’re used to seeing Light win.

Nice reaction. But maybe don’t talk as much when there’s alot of dialogue happening. Not saying don’t talk but you couldn’t easily miss info doing that.

Light always been cold. Without any spoilers I dont actually understand people rooting for Light. He is that pure evil Lind L. Tailor been talking about in Ep 2, he is a ego-maniac, a serial killer, a person with strong God complex. Remember how he taunted Naomi Misora and clearly enjoyed her death? All this "I AM JUSTICE" BS is just excuses, covering up his real nature.
But I truly admire his mind and geniusness, that’s for sure.

I agree with Samm, it is annoying if the main character always won and was overpowered that would be down right boring. Could you imagine a show where the main character won every fight with no struggle at all, that be awful.

Honestly this is the point at which Death Note starts to degrade, I know others think it goes downhill later on…but this is the real turning point where this series starts to become progressively worse.

And he wasn’t anxious at all at that moment when L revealed himself. He seemed anxious to us viewers because we could see hear his thought process but to L and all the others siting there he was just a normal person.

When Light makes his comment about special investigators being sent by L while watching TV, and L says that Light is smart, that really was the turning point. I think Light’s decline began the day he decided to kill Raye Pember & Naomi Misora…..but Light’s real weakness was his pride. He would have been very difficult to get to had he been not so proud.
