Our first experiment in comparing and contrasting original versions of films with their remake. Yes, we know there other Death Note material that could be considered but for our purposes, we are using the live action 2006 version (first film only) Netflix is throwing a lot of money at some big name properties so how does this stand up? Nicely done. Did not expect you doing a side by side review.
I agree with you for the most part, the Netflix one is not really worth it. They crammed WAY too much into a 100 min movie, way to compacted for it to be great storytelling.
It had a couple of good moments like the gore, a little of the atmosphere and Willem Dafoe but not much else.
Btw Dante, if you had payed attention to the end credits you’d see how they made Ruyk, a mix of CG and character acting, somewhat like how they did with Benedict Cumberbatch when he gave his voice to Smaug in The Hobbit.

This one was best kept as an anime. The mere length of the series combined with the intricacies of the story made it hard to compact into a single serving.
