I hate reviews that compare the movies to their anime counterpart, or to it’s book. Of course the book or episodes will show a much longer, in depth storyline and character relations. Not to mention, you’re comparing their acting to a cartoon or book. Of course the cartoon will always win because they can easily draw out what they want the characters to act out. As goes for the book, your imagination of how the characters act will always be better than how they act it out in real life.
So now we got that out of the way, I am someone who has never ever seen the anime version before seeing the movie. And I have to say, I actually really liked the movie. Yeah the acting may not be up to par, and the graphics might be a little CG, or cartoonish, but the storyline made up for it. Overall, I have to say, I actually enjoyed this show. I would recommend it to anyone, other than people who watch anime and now think they’re experts on anime being better than ANY LIVE ACTION FILM.

I didn’t love the first one. I have seen all the anime series previously, and the first titan attack in the movie was incredibly epic to me, and the titans horriffic… until the soldiers just laid down and whined while waiting to be eaten. Then it turned extra japanese. I find that humans behave strangely in many japanese movies.
I liked the insane titan stuff well enough to enjoy the movie, though. I’ll probably buy the second one on Blu-Ray as well when it comes down in price.

The movie story line is different from the anime but I still love it. Better than most anime adaptation I’ve seen.

…I… WHY!? Why are they using M4 Carbines with Mars sights in one scene, but canons and swords in another!? If you have access to machine guns, you don’t need swords, you don’t need 3DMG, you just set up machine gun nests and cleave targets apart with gunfire! What is this nonesense?!

i actually liked both parts, obviously one can’t cram an entire anime series into one or two movies, same can be said for parasyte part one and two, but overall on both these anime’s they did get the looks right imo

its not a terrible film ,and admirable considering budget time limits and location .my main criticism would come through tinkering with the story far to much .yes you have to write with budget considerations but the story from the manga could have been paralleled with out to much of a departure .

I actually thought part 1 was an okay movie, the only bad things were (spoilers): no erens mothers death, no levi, no armored titan. the characters themselves were okay to me, just i wanted mikasa to be like in the anime. other than that, the movie was fine.
part 2 though was something in between… there were horses replaced by trucks (wtf?) and what REALLY bothered me was that the army guy was the colossal titan instead of berthold and the armored titan was shikishima (the new levi) instead of reiner
what bothered me the most about both is that erens parents didn’t die in a titan accident but instead were killed by shikishima. part 1 was a 6/10 for me, but part 2 is a 5/10 for me…
