A Cruel Weeb’s Thesis: Why I Love Evangelion (Part 1)
Today, under the scope, I examine the reasons behind my love for Neon Genesis Evangelion–the 1995 classic from Hideaki Anno that’s polarizing to say the least. This video is part 1 of 2.

This series cured me of my suicidal tendencies when I was in High school. Tbh It was like a big therapeutic acid trip or something.

I kinda think Eva is overrated. Like, it’s okay, but it’s not as good as many would make one believe.

I think evangelion is great, don’t get me wrong. But I think there was not enough episodes and felt slightly rushed to me. By the time it ended It felt like my brain was brutally raped. The ending of the original series was especially hard to understand. That was all in his head? Yes it was. Where did all of that thinking take place ?? Shinji fixes his problems everyone congratulated him the end. The end of evangelion ending was much easier to understand. But I still had to do a lot of research to get what had happened. A lot of REALLY IMPORTANT information in the show is glided by (yes it is in the show). But it’s really hard to absorb the REALLY IMPORTANT information when it’s quickly brought up and then you move on. I like the show, but believe it is overhyped after seeing it. Don’t get me wrong I was blown away by the spectacle of the ending of EoE. But this is just my opinion

If all or at least half of the things were explained or hinted in the anime, then I could give it more praise but the story is all over the place. It doesn’t know how to be vague in its hidden storytelling. I like thinking. I don’t know if I can compare anime to a video game but if this game could be more like dark souls and have more understandable clues within the the show, I probably could call it a masterpiece. But even the guys in countless videos I’ve seen don’t get all their information from the anime or movie.

Story is stationary. Most of it is mystery like Attack on titan, poorly explained or left on the cutting floor. people like it for the characters, And that’s where all the substance is, which is a shame.

If only Eva’s plot didn’t shit its contrived pants toward the end (EoE included). Rebuilds had a chance to right those wrongs, but it seems that they went with the Michael Bay route instead.

Misato tries to be a mother to Shinji… by constantly making sexual advances toward him. This also hints at Misato’s relationship with her mother.

I find it amusing that the things people often say about NGE, both positively and negatively are things that don’t even occur to me. I haven’t been able to sit through the series, but not because I dislike the characters or the plot or anything like that. I just can’t take the setting seriously. How is it that in a world that is hit with near apocalyptic events on a nearly daily basis can manage to have such a normal, casual society with things like school. How is it that the whole place isn’t stupidly militarized to the point where everyone is training to fight for their lives at a moment’s notice? The place is basically the setting of Attack on Titan without the walls. I don’t know. Maybe I’m missing something, but from what I’ve seen the average civilian is WAY too casual about life threatening situations that happen around them on a regular basis. I hope I’m missing something. I really do. It’d be great to get to experience an anime this influential and impacting, whether I end up enjoying it or not, but at this point I haven’t been able to get past the first few episodes.

Exactly why I’ve always loved it when almost everyone around me has disliked it.
I see myself, I see all the broken and insecure people represented there… when I see someone disliking it I see someone trying their hardest to close their eyes when their most vulnerable self are shown in front of them.
No escapism to be found in this anime… and that’s why people hate it. Not because it’s not good, but because they can’t deal with themselves.

It is my opinion, if you were the type of person who was cut out to like Eva’s real message you love the final two episodes.

I don’t remember this series being so in depth, most of it really just went over my head as almost filler. Maybe I was just looking to finish it rather than enjoy it. Gotta watch it all in full again

Okay uh… is it weird to say Gendo is my favorite character in the entire series? Like he’s a horrible person and he’s not my favorite as a person (that would be Misato) but he’s the most interesting in my opinion. And I also love villainous roles (especially when they’re sympathetic). Also he has such a presence and he looks so intimidating. Is that weird? Am I weird? I’m weird… I’m sorry…

One of my friend introduced me Evangelion as "You gotta watch it coz’ it’s brilliant, it will make you depressed, and want to kill yourself, but still worth it."
So I watched like 15 episodes, and it is not depressing, didn’t even think about killing myself, and I don’t think it’s ‘brilliant’ but it is definitely very good. Something wrong with me?

Eva actually learned me to confront myself: accepting I can have human impulses that strike with other’s, know I am who I am and making a mistake isn’t the end of the world, as long as we learn from that mistake. I think a lot of other people did too
