Light is the sort of person who was a blank slate, and any strong outside influence could push him to either good or evil. Finding the Death Note obviously was his push.

The problem with subtitles for me is watching a tiny box with text on the phone. Otherwise sub is the way to go in most cases

To understand how Light could expect Ryuk to suddenly show up one day. You have to know the Asian/japanese culture. In Western culture, Death is personaified by a Grim Reaper (guy with scythe and a list of names of people who will die). In Asian culture, its a shinigami. now in some asian culture, King YAMA aka king of hell has a notebook that list the time and date etc including their karma of when they will die. Death note is basically a combination of various traits of that. Sine light is asian, he ofc knew a death note = a death god somewhere close by

Thank you for watching it subbed. The English dub is fucking atrocious. I’m Russian but I can recognize some good voice acting like in Baccano or Cowboy Bebop. This isn’t the case with Death Note. The English dub for this show is horrrible and watching it in Japanese is the only acceptable version.

I would recommend you to watch the dubed version since this is a heavily dialog progressed show and there will me moments where it’s impossible to read all the subs.
