The voice acting sounds bad, and the lip sync looks off. Jesus christ, lmao. This anime still looks kind of lit.

I’ve heard about this anime and been wanting to watch it for a long time. Does this release have everything in it? I won’t be missing any story?

Amazing anime, a very lacking trailer here….
To those in the dark, Record of Lodoss War is a lovely high fantasy, swords and sorcerery, Dungeons and Dragons inspired anime. I only saw it about two years ago and really enjoyed it. I haven’t seen all of Chronicles of the Heroic Knight but I LOVE the original OVA – the animation has that organic, hand-drawn, painterly feel you don’t get in animation anymore. The dub sounded pretty vapid and they didn’t show a great clips. I would stick with sub for this one.

Hey now that you guys license the 2016 Berserk series, is there any chance on releasing the 1997 series on DVD/BluRay in its original format? I know the UK/Australia just got a re-release last year.

Yeah, I’m gonna go and make my own fantasy anime. It’s gonna have cool stuff, like Magic Missiles and THAC0!

Will Funimation license the original Heroic Legend of Arslan OVA series with the original English dubs and produce a new dub as well?

I’m really glad that RECORD OF LODOSS WAR is being brought back. This has always been a favorite of mine.
I may be in the minority, but I actually like the RECORD OF LODOSS WAR dub… the OVA one, that is. It’s by no means perfect and has a few rough bits (the bit where Slayn says "Hey, Parn! Get inside there!" being a bit stiff), but compared to a lot of dubs around its era (particularly the Manga UK dubs), it’s one of the better ones around. It’s notable for Lisa Ortiz’s turn as Deedlit (and she really shines considering how it was her first role), and Bill Timoney does a fine job as Parn (in the OVA, that is; I’m not so fond of his turn in the TV show, even though I understand where he was coming from when he did the part). Most of the other VAs are well cast as well (I particularly like John Knox as Ashram, Al Muscari as Slayn, Bruce Winant’s Wagnard, and Dick Rodstein as the narrator). There are a few weak parts in the incidental voices, but otherwise the OVA dub holds up fairly well.
The CHRONICLES OF THE HEROIC KNIGHT dub, on the other hand, is much weaker. Dubbed at a different studio than the one from the OVA, the performances take a hit in quality and the writing is not as good. There are some bad turns as well. It’s unfortunate Funimation is highlighting the CHRONICLES dub in its trailer, because that dub WAS problematic. Crispin Freeman is one of the best things about it — his turn as Spark is solid, and Lisa Ortiz continues to do a fine job as Deedlit. On the whole though, the OVA dub remains the better dub, warts and all.

*Funimation* – I love you guys, this is a great pickup, but you gotta redub this one. Central Park Media was not known for its dubwork. 🙁

Oh man, this is fantastic! Back in the day we used this series in drinking games. We had stock footage cards you had to draw from. It really stunk for the people that drew either the "Troops Marching" or "Dragon Flying" cards… What was worse was the Legend of Crystania "Answer Me!!!" card. That one is only for committed alcoholics.

I hope this version still includes the english opening and ending themes for the OVA. Never saw the second series though, is there an english version of those OP and End songs? Japanese opening and endings always sound out of place in a medieval european like setting to me.

Okay so was this a dub of the OVA, or was this from the TV series? I heard that of the two the OVA series had the better dubbing job (and was just far better than the TV series in general) but if this is the OVA….then I’d hate to see what the TV series is like. I’m going to watch the dub of the OVA regardless (I hate reading subtitles) but even as a fan of dubs this clip at least was really bad.

YESSSSSS!!!!
I got to watch this in the original version when Blockbuster was still around. I’ve had the hardest time getting the DVDs over the years. For this one, the original voices and subtitles are best. I don’t say that often, but there are classics that are better as they were.

Ehh, I actually like dubs, and I find it cringy. Why couldn’t they have redubbed it like they did with Akira? (if financials weren’t all that great at the time, I retract my question).

Yay Record of Lodoss War! I remember watching this on Saturday Anime block on the Sci-Fi Channel back in ’96. The ova is better, Chronicles of The Heroic Knight is ok, the opening is the best part about it lol if they had just made it just like the opening it would have greatly improved from the ova
Anyways good old school fantasy anime here guys – Check it out!
