For those wondering, Bardock, The Father of Goku is non cannon. The official origin as written by Akira Toriyama can be read in Dragon Ball Minus.
As it turns out Goku was 3 years old when Bardock and Gine sent him to Earth. Bardock suspected Frieza was up to something so he sent Goku to Earth under the guise of an infiltration warrior, not to eliminate humanity, but to keep him safe. He chose Earth because there would be plenty of food and with humans weak power levels figured no one would be able to hurt him. Gine, Goku’s mother wanted all three of them to go, but Bardock knew that would rouse suspicion. Before they sent him off they looked into the pod and his mother promised if Bardock was wrong and Frieza doesn’t destroy them that they would come to Earth immediately and bring him home. But as we know they never did because Frieza did destroy the Saiyans and Goku doesn’t even remember the promise or his parents because he lost his memory when he hit his head.
In a way this story is both better and more tragic, because we now know Goku was never meant to destroy humanity, his parents only wanted to keep him safe, but it is more tragic because Goku forgot about the promise his mother made him and he will likely never know the risks his parents took to keep him safe.

My theory is that Goku is going to change a little after this movie. The fight with broly will bring back memories of what happened and in turn make him hate frieza. Frieza was brought back for a reason and it wasn’t to be friends with Goku. Broly and frieza is going to unlock Goku’s character for the first time
