Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime Review
Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime Review
Neon Genesis Evangelion was a anime series that aired in 1995 and ended in 1996. Its hard to believe its been 21 years since it aired. This series is considered a anime classic. Ikari Shinji is a character that is definitely misunderstood. Can’t wait to watch The End of Evangelion Movie.

Just something quick about Asuka and Rei which blew my mind. Asuka = exact same childhood as Shinji, but went completely the opposite way in her way of dealing with it. If Asuka’s and Shinji’s genders were switched, somehow their personalities would have been more likeable. Rei = a literal doll. She’s the ‘perfect waifu’, but in the end she’s shown not to be a real person. In fact with her it’s shown that what you want with that type is actually a mother figure. More than a mecha deconstruction, Eva is an anime deconstruction.

I think Chibi you haven’t take in account something about Rei. Isn’t that she’s like many characters. She were the archetype character of the Kundere (True, surely there was before, but no one had the same influence in the next two decades of characters archetypes).

If you haven’t watched EoE yet, do not watch the dub. While the returning cast gives some of their best performances for the time, all of the recast voices are awful and completely ruin it.

Your review isn’t genuine, it seems you read of other really stupid people’s reviews to rush your review out.
It’s very *VERY* obvious and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Evangelion was my fifth favourite anime but since I finished Usagi Drop yesterday it’s now my sixth favourite.

EVA isn’t even a mech anime in my opinion – it’s a religious one. that’s why it’s called "neon genesis evangelion". it’s mythos is clearly an alien version of christianity – the aliens in the show are kind of like the angels of a god…oh wait, that’s why they’re called "angels". and mankind is trying to fight god, kind of like what people perceive mankind to be doing today (although I won’t go into this because it’s subjective and I’m not even religious myself). I don’t think I’ve ever seen an anime that’s "religious" in this sense

How did Eva have religious themes?
Aside from references and aesthetic choices there really isn’t as much depth (or any) in the "religious" aspects of eva.
The show is definitely more character based.
Even Anno himself said that the crosses, tree of life, Adam, etc was just done because it looked cool.

I like the ending. It’s great. Has a lot more actual psychological stuff in it that your LEARN in psychology studies than one might think. Also, I feel the "End of Evangelion" is not a re-write of the ending, it’s a parallel. Ep. 25 and 26 is what happens "inside" when everything merges (without spoiling too much), while "The End of Evangelion" is what happens OUTSIDE in the physical world. Anyway @Chibi did you get to watching the movie? What did you think? I’d love to see a video on that, even if it’s not too long.

The religious themes are just aesthetics. The most important part are the characters and the message behind there interactions. It’s so difficult to just pay attention to the core of the series?

+Chibi Reviews I can’t send mails because of certain reasons, so I’m all info-dumping it here. I hope you read this and have a nice day/night wherever you live.
People saying Shinji is a bad character is just naive and ignorant. They probably don’t know what makes a good character. For, Shinji is one of the most complex characters I’ve seen. Not only him, every character in Evangelion is complex. I love how they parallel to each other, and depending on you as a person, you will see Evangelion as that certain character’s story.
For example, if you are a self-sufficient young adult, you will find yourself relating to Misato so hard. The whole thing about her relationship with Shinji and Asuka and how she has a hard time in guiding them.
Also, about Asuka being the complete opposite of Shinji, they have a lot more in common than you’d think. What this is trying to say is that no matter how different you are to others, you will always relate yourself with others. You are only human after all.
And yes, Ayanami Rei created the silent archetype. She was supposed to be an anti-moe type of character, which didn’t seem to succeed. Ayanami Rei’s existence is just tragic, she exists yet she doesn’t. She’s fake, but she likes to believe that she exists. She is probably the most complex of the bunch imo.
One thing you misunderstood about this series is that the religion. While it still makes sense in some way, it’s all used for the purpose of "coolness". What made Evangelion deep was not it’s religion, but for it’s characters.
I believe that Neon Genesis Evangelion was not a mecha anime series, but I believe that Neon Genesis Evangelion is Hideaki Anno’s (Evangelion Director) life. Once you get to know the director enough, you’ll see why this certain series is widely talked even today.
If possible, I would love it if you would consider making an analysis video for Evangelion rather than a review. I’ve been following since last year (really really love your mail videos btw <3)and I hope to receive more great content from you as a youtuber and as a person.
Love you and peace! <3

I was an otaku, a very serious otaku with a shelf stacked and crammed with anime dvds, from the ages of 13 to 19 until I generally matured and "grew up". I’m 23 now and I haven’t watched animes for years, unless I have a) already seen them and know that they’re good, or b) watching a series in my lounge with a couple of friends because we’re bored and an anime on netflix looks amusing or interesting (I’m usually the most reluctant to put an anime on though). I still think I have watched the great legendary and classic animes. my favourites though are not always predictable. my favourite might be "great teacher onizuka", but if not, then neon genesis evangelion is DEFINITELY my favourite. it gives me the chills just thinking about the series in general. it is just so high quality, albeit not perfect, that I think that ANYBODY, anime-fan or not, needs to see it. this is different to "classics" like cowboy bebop, dragon ball z, etc – neon genesis evangelion is in its own league. I’d also say death note is almost in that category, but neither is it as good nor is it one of my absolute favourites.

Personally, I thought Evangelion was pretty bad. I don’t want to watch an entire season and 3 movies just to understand the plot and meaning of the show. Plus it was way to complicated to understand. There wasn’t really much development and the characters were boring and unlikeable.
The only thing I liked about the show was the opening theme.

lol. I remember watching this series when I was a kid. and I love it. lol let him do some thinking on it watch it again research it a little . you have to watch the end of…. F the rebuilds. and hell change a lot of what he is saying. btw its not a deconstruction, and watch demo d review to get a better grip on this series. this is what I love about neon it can mean so many things to so many people. I have yet to find a better anime that does what it can do. good luck explaining it….

Welp, I for one DO like the original finale. I will not say that you just didn’t understand it, that’s bullshit. True, is not something easy and understandable not likeable, but at least it compiled me. I love EoE too.

You watched it in a weird order, most watch EoE before the last 2 episodes of Eva :/
Zachory Breau
October 9, 2018 @ 10:42 pm
do not i repeat do not watch rebuilds they try to make it a shounen and last two episodes is what happens in shinji’s mind during the human instrumentality project. End of eva explains what happens on the outside of the human istrumentality project.

U have to watch the end of Eva movie that solidifies the series because without End of Eva the series is incomplete the reason why rei is the way she is is because she’s a clone (spoilers)

Just watched all of Neon Genesis Evangelion and End of Evangelion in one day, and it’s not the amazing masterpiece everyone says it is. Just alright. :/
The only really good and interesting parts were the mecha scenes and battles. I loved the animation in all those mecha scenes, especially in the scene where Unit 01 ate the Angel and looked very animalistic.
But there were a lot of things I didn’t like. I really don’t like Shinji, the last two episodes were SHIIIIIIIT, and the show had a lot of boring scenes and too much philosophical BS.
If someone asks me to suggest them a mecha show, I would never recomend Evangelion and would instead tell them to watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
