Actually "Grave of the fireflies" tells the story, how the boy’s pride leads to both their deaths. The aunt was strict, not cruel and the boy made a lot of preventable mistakes out of ignorance. Still i cry every time.😭😭😭

All of Miyazaki’s movies address heavy subjects. That’s why he’s a master.

A highly underrated Ghibli movie is ‘Only Yesterday’ highlighting how traumatic one’s childhood can be. Not everything about childhood is blissful and beautiful for it too has it’s fair share of complexities in the form of adolescence issues, family conflict, sibling rivalry and so much more. I loved how the movie spoke of letting go of our childhood in the process of accepting ourselves. :’)
An absolute gem of a movie by Takahata ❤️

Grave of the Fireflies was one of the saddest films I’ve seen. I cried like no tomorrow and although it’s an amazing animation I’ve yet to bring myself to watch it again especially since Ukraine has been attacked. How children are affected by war…it’s devasting.

The consequences for destroying Nature, using technology irresponsibly and for evil, and pollution. Hayao Miyazaki truly gives his fans important life lessons in his movies.

Studio Ghibli has always shown principles and the rights in the world. If there’s never struggles or unfortunate events that come place in Studio Ghibli, there’s no fundamental principle to look up to

The beauty in “Princess Mononoke” is that that both sides have a point and the movie doesn’t demonize them. That Lady War (I don’t remember her name) might be brutal in destroying the land, but it’s the only way to give the unfortunate people (refugees, ex prostitutes, and even lepers) a future and a place to live peacefully.
The gods on the other hand want to protect their home, but they are not above of being jerks.

I think you missed a good one in Kiki’s Delivery Service. The movie dapples into depression, maturing from child to adult, and finding self-confidence. It may be a simple movie, but it does subtly add in meaningful themes

If I am not wrong, Porco Rosso is about veterans and PTSD. Our protagonist has a pig face after the war because society sees him as not human anymore.

My Neighbor Totoro gets to me now the older I get. Upon first watch you’re like, "Yeah, nice kid’s movie." But upon 2nd and 3rd viewings, you realize that the girls’ mom is coming really close to dying – and it’s all going down off screen. The dad and neighbors are putting on a brave face … then you realize Totoro, Lil Totoro, Catbus, and the rest are appearing to the two girls… just in case their mother doesn’t make it.

Absolutely delighted you used the old Fox dub for Totoro!
On another note, the complexity of Princess Mononoke is something I like about it, and I’m glad that you pointed it out. When I watched the movie, I couldn’t help but feel for everyone but the woman running the show. "Help me kill the forest spirit" just isn’t something very enticing. But the people who work for her love her, and you can see why when she interacts with them. Yet the forest is clearly hurting, and its rage is valid. It’s not a movie I can just sit down to watch, but it’s a memorable one.

Ok, what English dubbed version is that of My Neighbor Totoro?? Hell, the same for some of these other ones too. The voices are NOT the same as the one I have on blu-ray. Did they do different English dub versions or something? I’m just wondering because you can hear the difference between these English dubbed versions and the ones released here in the U.S. Some of them are the same voice actors in these clips but the other ones are different. Crazy. Anyways, I love all the Miyazaki movies and have all of the movies on blu-ray as well.

I always loved how this is an animated studio that makes movies for general audiences yet they aren’t afraid to deal with very mature messages and themes while most Hollywood animation studios are afraid to do so. Due to them being concerned about scaring away children. Ghibli is the perfect example of “Animation Is For Everyone”.
