I feel like you upload so unbelievably frequently. Maybe weeks just fly by for me but JESUS I could never make a video essay every week. Every 2 weeks has proven impossible so far but hopefully starting this week that’ll officially start

One of my favorite series of all time. People feel dissapointed by the ending, but to me, Joe and Yuri’s matches were over before their own fight started.

Well, I already disagree. Kaguya, Mob Psycho, AoT, Kimetsu, OPM, Promised Neverland, Carole & Tuesday, Dororo, Saranzamai, Boogiepop, Aggretsuko, Shield Bro…
But otherwise great video, MEGALOBOX is awesome

One thing doesn’t get mentioned about the art style of the show, and I feel like it should be commended: it provides a perfect and direct parallel to the story at hand.

At its core, the theme of Megalo Box is about recapturing classic tradition. What drives the rival Yuri to face off with Joe? Clearly, he could pummel him to death with his gear (apparent in Episode 2). But with the rising of Joe to the finals of Megalonia, he found that classic spirit of boxing before it was taken over by technology and a fuel for sheer powerful gears to amp up the game. Yuri ends up ridding himself of his own nerve-integrated to fight him, not for a handicap…. but to go back to the root of what made him want to box in the first place.

In today’s age, what parallel seems most familiar to Megalo Box’s plot situation? Well, in the past couple decades, the digital age of creative media took the world be storm. We could make more fictional mediums with "better visuals" at easier costs and time…. sometimes, maybe even "better" than the classics that might now seem dated or old-fashioned. But something was lost along the way: most of these new works…. they lack soul, a real drive behind why they were even made outside of profit. They might be considered exciting and fun by the public’s eye. However, they might also be forgotten in the blink of an eye.
That parallel also applies to anime today. MANY times more anime shows come out each year than they did a decade ago. Yet most will be forgotten. They may be exciting and pretty to look at in the moment, but it usually becomes fleeting. No true impact had been made. Not like Evangelion. Not like Fullmetal Alchemist. Not like Cowboy Bebop or Trigun. Which is why Megalo Box’s animation feels like such a wonderful placement. Its limited productions and scale-down quality brings it back to the days of when animation was as equally limited. It reminds us of those glory days.
I could’ve illustrated my point WAY better, but now I feel like this is mere rambling.
I will say this: modern classics are NOT dead today. Two shows have brought JUST as much impact in my eyes as some of those classics. The first being, of course, this anime; the other being the new adaptation of Dororo (which, after nearly a full 7 days, I’m STILL trying to recover emotionally from the fact that it ended). I’m just glad someone else recognizes the sheer importance of the former.

You say a lot of what it does without really pointing to how it does it, biggest offender being "taking inspiration from its roots, but never letting the tropes completely run how the show is handled", not to mention that literally next sentence you’re saying it’s ending was surprisingly melancholic, but Ashita no Joe was super melancholic. Even if it’s atypical for sports anime, i would say it’s a huge oversight when you yourself say Megalo Box is inspired heavily from it

It’s not like it wasn’t an amazing anime, probably my favorite from the year even but like….doesn’t it need to be more popular to be a classic? At this point, I’m not sure it even counts as a cult classic

I feel in love with Megalo Box not only because of the story, but because of the art style as well. I legit thought it was done by Bones before looking it up. A truly great anime.
And yeah, this year has been slow and this summer season doesn’t look that promising. If there’s one I can recommend is Given. Trust me, do not judge it because of the genre, there is a great story behind it.

Actually, it’s been a very dynamic year for anime so far I would say. Winter 2019 is probably the best season I have experienced for anime since 2017. Spring 2019 however, mostly got by thanks to sequels or remakes. Most of the original stuff were lacking, making this probably one of the weakest seasons since 2017. ?

I liked the ending, but it doesn’t compare to Hajime no Ippo. It’s what it is, an homage to the genre, a celebration, not a revolution

i was fucking hyped up for this anime when i watched it i loved the art style the OST the aesthetics the story was decent but the fights where so bad, not animation wise but as a story. what i feared the most happened, which is joe gets shit on the whole match and getting beat up then at the end with a couple of punches he knocks out his enemy and that was the scenario of almost all the fights which was hella lame
