Sorry but I couldn’t watch this all the way through as I got to the point of him discussing him falling through the fall and he seemed not to grasp the situation at all, la million when he fully phases he can’t see as light doesn’t get to his eyes he has no feeling of anything, his knowing where to pop out is mathematical and calculated before he enters the ground.

Hey I get the point you were making, and I agree, but I honestly could tell you that falling through the earth would not scare me at all. Not because I am super human brave but because I have a condition that completely eliminates fear (as well as other things that make up a big bag of not fun). I don’t want to go into too far because it is kind of personal and the other effects of this are very debilitating too, but I wanted to add that. Your point still stand though, so you aren’t wrong at all. I was growing up and got injured in many ways most people never will because they have a healthy fear response that keeps them from doing dangerous things. It wasn’t until I was ten or eleven that I really started to notice not everyone is like this. I was so confused for such a long time because all I had was my reference point and it didn’t match up to what I was observing in others. I broke my leg nearly beyond repair once because I tried a jump I thought I could do because the fear of trying something dangerous never entered my mind. I KNEW it would be bad if it went wrong, but I never stopped to factor that it. It”s so hard trying to explain. People tell me well so what you don’t feel fear so just analyze stuff and know it’s dangerous that way. If you have time, sure, but a lot of what we do is kind of instant. Yes do this, no don’t do that. In times I just react and do something, there is no moment where fear or caution kicks in. I just do the thing. Let me try to give an example that maybe makes more sense than the garbage I just said. (This really is hard to explain…) When I was a teenager, I was dared to steal something from a store. Nothing expensive or crazy, just this book. Stupid, yeah, but I was a weirdo trying to fit in, so I did it. The store security team saw me pocket the book on camera, this was a Walmart store, and immediately came to apprehend me as they well should have. One of them grabbed my arm as I was leaving the store from behind. Most people would be startled and there would be a moment of quick thinking there to guide their next action. I went straight to punching the guy in the mouth and kicking him in the balls. No thinking of who the guy was and why he was grabbing me. No thinking it through, could I even beat this guy in a fight? No thinking about oh hey this is a security guy stopping you from stealing, something he was absolutely in the right of doing, and hitting him will have very negative legal consequences beyond just the stealing thing. The only mental math was guy grabbed me, I didn’t want to be grabbed, make guy not want to continue grabbing me and let go by any means, most direct means equals hitting him. Lightning fast. None of the important stuff was there. No look at the guy and see who he is (he was wearing security garb). No realization this was connected to the theft or even an attempt to think if it was. No analysis to see if I even stood a chance against a guy I was about to assault (comparing size, height, and the other stuff most people do when trying to superficially estimate if they can fight someone on even grounds). No assessment of hitting a stranger will have legal repercussions. Just "got grabbed" plus "didn’t want to be grabbed" plus "make being grabbed status go away" plus "fastest way to not be grabbed any more is attack" equals "hit the guy who grabbed me." After it was over, all that other stuff kicked in, and still nothing. I KNEW this was a bad position to be in. I knew the consequences but no fear response of holy shit I am so screwed and about to go to jail. Just the realization I did it and it’s too late to undo it and now these unpleasant things will occur because of it. It isn’t just with consequences of being in trouble, like a right and wrong thing. I would fear no fear being in the water with sharks or being in a burning building about to collapse. I KNOW both of those situations are bad and dangerous, but zero emotional response. No elevated heart rate at all, no sweating, no freaking out, just coldly knowing its happening. It does effect right and wrong a little though, but that isn’t just the feat part of the condition. It’s part of that other "big bag of no fun" I mentioned earlier. I had to literally build a big database in my head of this is a good thing and that is a bad thing. Everyone else tells me this is something you FEEL not analyze, for the most part. You FEEL hurting someone is wrong. You FEEL making fun of people is wrong. I have to actively know it at all times and choose to act accordingly. I have to stop and assess every decision to tell if its a good moral choice when everyone else automatically knows if it is or now. I don’t feel guilt at all either. The security guy I hit, after he hit me back, probably more than he had to, and easily detained me on the ground, was very obviously in pain (I did kick him in the balls) but I felt no quilt for it. I KNOW it caused him discomfort and I KNOW that is a thing people do not like,. I KNOW I don’t want people to feel that because I KNOW this is a thing most people do not find acceptable. Compassion keeps most people from hurting others. I don’t feel that. I made the choice I want to be a good person because that is what people should be. It’s how society and order works. But these are things I have to KNOW and ASSESS and CHOOSE. I know a lot of crazy psycho people have this glitch and do not care about others. I don;t FEEL the care thing but I choose to care in a mental way. Does this make sense? I try to explain this and no one ever really gets in. I KNOW I sound like a lunatic probably as I type this but I don’t feel the things that would keep most people from sharing this kind of thing like embarassment or shame. I choose to act in ways that society values because I choose to value those things. Take a theft for example. Most people feel that stealing is wrong. They took something this other person cherishes or had to spend time or money to get and now they feel bad. I have to do all the mental work of knowing that stuff. I won’t feel bad but i will know they are because their cherished/valuable thing was taken and I choose to not want to make people feel that way. I know hitting people causes them pain and I choose to not want them to feel pain because to them that is a bad thing. I have to mentally know what society values as morals and know why those are important and choose, for my benefit and everyone around me’s benefit, to act accordingly. The only things I really do feel is excitement in certain circumstances. I went skydiving once with friends, a tandem dive, and I felt serene and excited. Not because it was dangerous because so is juggling chainsaws and that would not have the same effect. Anyway I shared my little bag of insanity so there it is. My brain is broken, but I choose to not let that define me.

Hi, anime only, just introduced to Mirio Togata
If light phases through Togata, isn’t a side effect of his quirk make him invisble as well, or at least transparent and/or colorless?

An interesting note, the fact the he falls instead of being suspended when utilizing his ability implies that gravity still affects his molecules. This means that a person with a quirk which allows for the manipulation of the gravitational field could also potentially be a major weakness for Mirio.

I disagree with the part where Mirio shoudn’t be able to see or hear. Even while in his incorporeal state, Mirio is perfectly visible to those around him. Also, even while phased out, others can hear what he says. The physics of this has to work both ways. If photons can reflect off of him in the way they have to to make him visible to others, as we well know is the case from the anime and manga, then they should very well reach his eyes and allow him to see. Because if the photons passed through him as he explains, then he would also be invisible in his phased state. He clearly is not. Also if sonic vibrations, sound waves, pass through him, then how is he able to create such and speak in phased form? I like how the author went in depth with this and gave Mirio these creative dimensions as it really paints the portrait of how exemplary this man is, but to work as told, Mirio would also have to be invisible and unable to be heard in his phased state to also be blind and deaf. I can get behind the not being able to breathe thing as it can be said whatever air he had in his lungs phases with him but new air cannot be taken in as it passes through him. But if this is the case, then substances in close enough proximity to him can phase him him, and that should mean his clothing should as well, or at least sufficiently tight enough clothing. None of this ruins the character for me though. Just food for thought. I also can kind of see where the author might be going with this. Mirio is stated to be closest to becoming the Symbol of Peace and number one hero. The author takes a great deal of time saying this as well a showing it. Then Mirio loses his quirk. The author also makes it a point to tell us Mirio was going to become the recipient of One For All were it not for Deku. One For All is now pass the point of singularity, meaning it is beyond control, going by the story’s terminology. Deku is now exhibiting some new power or function of One For All at this level with the black lightning and these vestiges. It is known that the holder of One For All must have a sufficiently powerful enough body to even hold the power, let alone wield it safely. The power grows with each passing, and so does the requirements the holder must meet to hold and use it. Eventually the quirk will grow to the point no regular person can even hold it. Deku had to train for nearly a year just to hold the power and not die or be crippled. Fast forward and eventually a time will come that no normal human can ever hold the quirk because there is a limit to how powerful a normal human body can become. Eventually only a person who already has a quirk that grants superhuman strength or durability can receive it. Eventually, only people like Kirishima or Tetsutetsu with a hardning quirk or the like can withstand even containing the quirk within their body. What if One For All needs to be broken up because it has stockpiled too much power? What is it doesn’t ALL have to be passed on. What if it eventually becomes necessary to split it? I think it might be possible to learn how to use the passing on power of the quirk to split away a portion of it and bestow it on another. Maybe Deku could train and learn how to select perhaps 25 percent of the quirk’s power and pass that the next person and keep the rest. I also think we are seeing evidence that One For All stores also the quirks of previous users that also had quirk. It stockpiles power and quirks are power. It is never said only physical power is stored, though that is the assumption. I can see Deku perhaps isolating one of these stored quirks and a bit of stored physical power and passing it on to Mirio. This would lower his stack of One For All to manageable levels as well as give Mirio back the power he needs to be a hero. If this happens, though, I doubt Mirio would be able to pass his stack along as that would likely reside with the original holder, in this case Deku.

Talking with lungs in the ground makes me wonder if he can breath if his mouth is unphased? Shouldn’t he be invisible when phased? I’m thinking of a unique kind of grappling and or imparting force to opponents mid air using this quirk.

I call bullshit! Even if the manga says oh well it’s just training that makes it strong but bullshit phasing is always OP examples (kitty pride, obito w kamui, that new ant man villain ghost I think) and with his he can teleport so even more so, of course he had to learn you have to learn to crawl before walking but quirks are anatomical so fesably it shouldn’t be harder to phase his hand seperatly than it would be to move his hand seperatly

Falling through the planet isnt practical, it takes like 40ish minutes under the force of gravity to go from one side to the other, so unless mirio can hold his breath for like 20 minutes just long enough to get past the center of the planet and get slung back up, he couldnt make it all the way through.

Mirio is a broken and disjointed character who i feel was created with the sole purpose of being the character who was supposed to be all mights successor, his personality feels fake most of the time with a chipper 50s picturesque leave it to beaver kind of attitude and superficial heroic qualities that lead to his loss of his quirk – however this losses the weight of the moment due to the knowledge that he could quite possible get his quirk back.

He left Eri behind, he gave himself a self righteous name – one describing how he will "save a million" which is very analytical, numbers based and detached. Hes a bit creepy too and i dont know he feels so fake or just bad character design as in character driven storytelling bad character design
