You seem to not remember that Light is a genius. It’s established early on that he has some of the highest scoring test results nationwide, and it’s obvious that his IQ levels are through the roof. You get hung up on the fact that he is too perfect, when that is the very reason L suspects him the most.

Light is supposed to be ridiculously smart, the show would be boring if he wasn’t. It is fiction after all, I can understand you being bothered by it if it were live action or something though. This isn’t a realistic series, so don’t let little things bother you :p

For part of it with light being so on top of stuff I usually just attribute it to him being the highest ranked student in Japan. They have mentioned that a time or two if you had forgotten that little detail x3

Hey guys, if you seem to really like the kind of character Light Yagami is. Try watching Code Geass. It is 2006 greatest phenomenon besides Death note.

I love Death Note but the series has a lot of problems. One of them is they never developed Light prior being Kira. He turned into a self righteous monster in just a single episode. Other is (as you said) the fact the conclusions of both Light and L are always so conveniently accurate. They should spent more time into laying hints in order to make the chess game more beliavable. For example the thing about the secure measures of his room could have been hinted in the second episode along the system he developed for the drawer where he hides the notebook.

The pacing of the first 15 episodes is so fast that it actually hurts the rest of the series.

I think L just has Kira pinned as a certain archetype of criminal in his head. He is in fairness almost certainly well versed in criminal psychology.

Light Yagami is like Hannibal Lecter. He is just entertaining fictional genius, you just need to roll with his genius and enjoy the show 🙂

He rigged his desk to ignite, i would bet that’s when and why he implemented the system that is only triggered when the lead is broken and the paper is put back in place.

Actually… I just realized something inconsistent about this episode, which bothers me: Ryuk says "there’s 64 cameras in here, I guess they expected you to find some of them." If they expected Light to be aware of the cameras, then the cameras are pointless. If he knew he was being recorded, he would never reveal himself to be kira.

Not that unbelievable tbh, if I had a death note I would also guard it in an obsessive way. I would probably carve a slit the size of the DN in my desk, put it there, make it look the same as before, let a few hundred bucks sit locked in my desk drawer + some weed and a mini bong which should act as a red herring for any old burglar, install at least a couple of cheap security cameras in my house, maybe even get a guard dog…etc. I would go nuts with trying to protect it because I wouldn’t want to risk anyone touching it or even worse, getting to have a conversation with my shinigami. Bastards would no doubt steal my weapon if they could and probably test it out on me. lol

Of course they’re both extremely smart. Light is *the top ranked student in the country* and L is the *world’s greatest detective* . Of course they can both figure things out quickly. If they couldn’t, it just wouldn’t make sense.

Light appearing to be too perfect/clever is the point to his character. Before the deathnote he was the same "perfect" person he is and because of that found the world to be boring and rotten. Which is also y when receiving the deathnote he dives in deep

you are comparing L and light with normal people… they are both Genius level people. Light is literally number 1 in japan when it comes to academics and L is a legendary detective.

The author of the manga would write a chapter, read it 15 times, and submit it, and then before writing the next one he would read the last one 15 times just to make sure there wasn’t inconsistencies and everything made internal-sense. the anime loses a LITTLE bit, but that isn’t until later.

he didn’t "become" a criminal mastermind. He was always a genius, he just started using it to kill people once he got the notebook. He has always been capable of doing this. It irks me when people think that the notebook showed up, and at that point Light became a genius. He has always been like that, had the same mindset and intellect he does now. That notebook wasn’t what changed him, it was simply a tool that allowed him to do the things he had already wanted. I can’t even continue watching this because you guys just don’t get it to such a level that it is irredeemable, and i know it wont get fixed any time soon. It isn’t that everything is just convenient for Light and L, these are two people with extreme intelligence going at it with no bars held. Of course he would be thorough enough to put graphite in his door, he is against the worlds best detective and wants to be a god. Getting caught by cameras would just be disappointing for someone of his caliber.

Your reactions are good but honestly these characters are smarter than yourselves (likely me as well) and you need to be open to that. If you don’t get how a character knows something then wait for an explanation, don’t just jump to them magically knowing it because it isn’t real life — it’s probably because they’re smarter than you.

I mean you guys were like "how does he know?!" when he acted like he knew that there was surveillance in his house. It’s a bit obvious from his behavior that he had some way of detecting that someone was in his house, which makes perfect sense considering that’s where he uses the notebook. It’s okay to not instantly get this, but you guys acted like this was some unrealistic stretch, even at the end of the reaction, when this literally isn’t even that smart of a thing to do — it’d be a basic precaution that even a novice would do when committing any crime.
