The only good reason to watch the rebuild movies (imho) is to see the remake of this angel fight at the climax of the first movie. This angel is a great one to use modern 3d animation for.

This show is definitely go somewhere. The next few parts will be fun, than shit will hit the fan, and when you finish ep24, you will be in deep shit. skip 25-26, and go for Death, than End of Eva. Death is a special recap of the show, to pinpoint all of the things you missed. Not really necessary, but wort to watch, and the violin quartet is cute. You will understand.
And then the main course: End of Evangelion. I cannot speak about it without heavy spoilers. Just keep going, and I will be really interested about your reactions of that.
