log horizon is before all a novel and this give the anime a biiiig universe. without saying that SO is bad i prefere Log horizon there is all in LO even politics! it get me into mmos and over all the characters in log Horizon have a more human feeling to them. And actually Log horizon main character is more deep and interesting. however i advise you to read the novel of log horizon, i’m currently reading it and this is sooooo sweet!.

I prefer Log Horizon because although the pace is often very slow it allows for more character development and the plot has a lot of interesting political elements (i.e. the process of actually trying to set up a functioning society) as opposed to the pure action and romance of SAO. Also, the way that the reason for the characters being trapped in the game is left largely unknown makes the series more mysterious and engaging. However, I have to disagree with your statement that Log Horizon is geared towards a niche audience and others would find it boring. I know next to nothing about gaming (although I’d like to get into it), but I still found the few elements which were explained in the series interesting, and could follow and understand the strategies used as well as getting extremely invested in everything that was happening (this is coming from literally the world’s most clueless person when it comes to games). In fact, I think the series can be enjoyed by anyone who is willing to bear with the initially slow pace and recognise how great the story, characters and ideas are. The politics and intellectual aspects just make it so much more interesting than SAO, although I am a fan of both.

The first arc in SAO was better than log horizons complete first season. But I will say sao goes downhill after the first arc. That’s the only reason log horizon MIGHT!! be better. But they’re 2 different anime, so it’s hard to compare ?

Log Horizon struck me as a great anime. I would take another season of that over SAO any day.

Why? Because I enjoyed the slow pace, the politics, how closely it resembeled an MMORPG and much much more!.. and a main character with glasses is always a + :3

edit: also. I loved the log horizon soundtrack <3

    Dislike! SAO is shit.

JK. There are certain qualities of SAO that are great, if only because they sell well. Shiroe is not a popular type of protagonist :/.

Of course I liked the video :).

I’m only about halfway through Log Horizon season 1 and it’s already better than SAO. It hasn’t abandoned the plot to become Harem the anime like SAO did. Granted, it isn’t really hard to find anime better than SAO

I can live through Sword Art Online although I don’t think it’s actually much of a good story I can still watch it but I like watching Log Horizon because it was the MMO anime that I have been waiting for I always wanted to learn about MMOs and this and It gives have what I want

    I want Log Horizon S03!!!
I like SAO, well, the first arc. I was kinda disappointed at the second half, and VERY disappointed at S02. JUST because of that, Log Horizon would stand on top of any kind of comparison, as it not only delivered 2 full seasons that kept the series interesting and continued to unravel a very interesting story, but it left everyone who saw it waiting for the next season, and while fanboys will definitely want a new season of SOA, I would very much rather have them remake the first arc into another full season or two and run the story a bit deeper.

In my own humble opinion, the only thing SAO has on Log Horizon is the animation. Log Horizon is frustratingly slow, but I still love i. I love the world building, the character development, how the world actually gradually changes and becomes "more real" the longer they stay in it, and the in depth explanation of game mechanics. Personally, I hate MMOs, but I love RPGs, and the terms often crossover. However, I do like the SAO light Novels. I need to read the Log Horizon Light Novels though, so I don’t have an opinion on which is better as far as those go. 🙁

Also, Overlord is better than either of those, because he probably had the most realistic reaction to the whole scenario, haha,

The creator of sword art online doesn’t even know how mmos work 10,000 people at the start of a mmo would make it a flop on day one and don’t even get me started on the character development and shitty writing that’s been torn to shreds already.

stopped/lost me in a few minutes ranting about other animes and their character that I don’t even know, but heres your comment! I enjoyed both anime, I thought Log horizon was more enjoyable only because it was easier to relate to since the game portion was more authentic.

I prefer Sao, although I do like log horizon too. In Sao it had odd pacing I admit, and it didn’t have the best character development. In log horizon it seems the kids get more screen time than the main character and the pacing is slow. I could go on but the main reason I like Sao more is that it was the first anime I watched

I love log horizon because it’s not just about adventures it’s also about the people of the land and the world they live in also trying to work together with the rest of Japan in elder tales which I’m hoping season 3 might explain one more thing sword art online was great until the fairy arc for me

Log Horizon and SAO CANNOT BE COMPARED because SAO is focused around Kirito and Asuna while Log Horizon focuses on EVERYTHING ELSE like the world and you have more variety of characters to like.

I much prefer Log Horizon because in sao fights are won based on who is the better swordsmen, while LH fights are based of tactics which allows them to scale it into battles and wars. Some of the traps they fall for in sao make me think if only they had a strategist or really any sense of caution. Then there is the constant romance that reminds me of the Hallmark channel, not that it’s bad but I don’t like it. And the game mechanics seem to change for the needs of the plot. What is a switch anyway? Watched the entire series and still don’t understand it. LH also focuses on the psychology the players, they find stakes other the death to care about. That and the world building set it above in my opinion.

I prefer Log Horizon, because I’ve played and still play a lot of MMORPGs, I think this anime nails the theme and setting better than any other anime that has this theme, because it shows an understanding of MMORPG mechanics.

I also like the political struggles in this show.

To quote "Totalbiscuit". he said that SAO, is a game that is "constantly breaking its own rules." ^^

But i hope Log Horizon gets a season 3. cus that’s some good shiet.

Edit: Im actually a fan of SAO… but i think Log Horizon does a better job at being a "video game". and have more interesting themes with the NPCs and how they changed after the "incident" that launched the series.

Why is kirito the only one strong in SAO? Does the rest of SAO players too scared too level up? I would accept SAO fine if kirito died at the end ? Why kayaba set up an impossible boss at the end ? SAO captured me on ep 1 then it slowly went downhill from there.

I personally like log horizon more, I watched both series and think it has depth to it. LH is more character devolvement, and plot. It also has a deeper history and better understanding of game mechanics. I also like the fact that it’s a whole community and not just 1 guy soloing.  While SAO is a guy who likes to solo who meets a girl that he falls in love w/ and then has no character development, having almost no plot other than being stuck in a vrmmorpg in the first half of the 1st season. Also it barely mentions(if at all) the game mechanics and history of the game. Not to mention it revolves around one guy, surrounded by a sea of girls.  Yeah the are some good qualities in that anime,  depending on your understanding of ‘quality’, like the graphics and fights are good ( on my judgments). But other than that it seems to completely drop once it got to gun gale online and seemed to me just him playing games and no plot and/or reason at all. But if you don’t care about the flaws in SAO that I just mentioned and just want to watch a guy abscessed about vrmmorpg and half naked girls then go ahead and watch Sword art online. BUT if you do care about these good qualities in an anime, then I would suggest Log Horizon. I am apologize to those that are obsessed with SAO and are offended, but that is my personal opinion.

Log Horizon’s lore, story and characters are much more my thing. Ther’s less fighting and more politics tho so I can see why the younger crowd would give it a pass. Its complexer in nature, unlike Kirito, our enchanter isn’t the center of the universe and the main town is supposed to be ruled by the multiple Guilds in order to keep the peace, prosperity and not piss off the now sentient NPC’s.What I love the most is how the ‘server’ in LH becomes the real world so one could speculate that their consciousness has been transported into Elder Tales, and Elder Tales now is a separate universe as the NPC’s came alive, flavor text became reality and other rather big things that where kinda treated like details, like the existence of multiple servers. The saddest part about Log is that thee are only 2 seasons, and we got left siting on our hunger for more.

I tried SoA but harem anime really isn’t for me.
It felt empty and I gave up after season 1, the whole thing annoyed me.

Still need to watch Hack, but its definitely on my ‘to do’ list.

ok, before i watch your video let me just explain why I think S.A.O. is better then log horizon now most people it’s all about the vicious combat these are the same people panting over bleach and one punch man. but for me it is because A. in S.A.O. the protagonists actually have something to lose. if they die in game that’s it, game over but in log horizon getting killed just means losing some stuff and points but it’s not a big deal cause you come back B. the interpersonal relationships of S.A.O. are much richer and fleshed out then log horizon which feels more like pokemon or similar 2 dimensional formulaic character sheets anime

Log Horizon- less predictable main character, complex society, and history
SAO- main character is predictable and always win, not much character development, and focus to much on fights.

  49. CptVanguard
    May 28, 2019 @ 7:21 pm

Log Horizon is probably the better of the two if your after story, character development and general growth of the cast, and the fact its much MUCH more light hearted than SAO makes it more friendly to people after a happier plot (even if season 2 is slightly darker).

SAO is action heavy, its what you watch if you want less focus on story (beyond the development of Kirito and Asuna) and more focus on the main characters and their personal growth. SAO sort of has a hit-miss feel since the series generally fluxes in weird ways, it doesnt quite feel bad or good, but rather its never quite perfect but neither is Log.

Over all, id give Log the edge because personally I could enjoy Log for the sheer scale of events and personal growths of every individual character, watching them develop like a world felt more universal than SAO’s action heavy storyline. While I do enjoy the romance of SAO, I feel its weaker because it lacks anything beyond it, the romance story becomes pretty much the central plot and the implied harem aspects later become slightly obnoxious ruining some of the central themes.

Either way, SAO is great, but Log wins it for me, both are good equally in my heart but in my mind, a clear winner has to be one I could easily find more enjoyment out of for the long term.
