Do people ACTUALLY believe SAO is the "best anime of all time"?

Genuinely don’t understand how reviewers can dis character development after one season. Besides; Asuna is one of the most well developed characters i’ve seen in anime.

I fucking loved this anime – my favourite. (Go ahead and hate because you assume that you know better other commentators)

Oh my… I realize this was an early review for you, but it really sounds like you’re trying to keep the fans from raging at you with this. You and I both know this show isn’t worth anyone’s time. The idiotic plot did nothing but piss me off and the "cute" relationships between Kirito and the numerous girls amplified how pointless the whole show is. I will admit that it had potential. The first episode was set up interestingly. Then it was like the writers forgot what they were doing, so any hype I had dropped exponentially with each passing episode until I just couldn’t watch it anymore. If it were shit straight from episode one, then I wouldn’t care that much. But the fact that this pile of crap teased us with a potentially good anime, stabbed us in the back AND it was still praised by mindless droves of people just boggled my fucking mind. This is a show that I will love to hate forever. It’s just that bad.

Who came here just to hear someone bash the story and characters in KHO (Kirito Harem Online).

In the end I think whether or not you like SAO all depends on your own personal tastes.  That are A LOT of flaws, but there are also a lot of things that I would defend for SAO that make it really good. Whether or not you will like it depends on what kind of things you like to see in an anime and what kind of bad things are you willing to put up with to get to those good things.

I do agree that they spend a lot of time on the wrong things but I think it’s unfair to say there is no character development.  I actually think that there character development that occurred was really good, but the problem with it is that I feel like a character would develop, and just stagnate, then develop, then stagnate, then develop in a bad direction.

For me what held the story together was the genuinely interesting romance between Asuna and kirito, the weight that death has in this show that I’ve seen other anime just brush over, and Kirito’s journey of trying to figure out if he wants to leave what is essentially a fantasy come true and what he would be giving up doing so, which to me lead to an interesting conclusion that you can read a lot into.

I just want to point out that Kirito was a higher level and better than most, not because he cheated the system, but simply the fact is he was a beta tester. He played the game before anyone else and new alot about it. As the story explains while everyone else was freaking out, he went off to build his level because he knew how to do it, thats how he became such a high level.

*Whats wrong with this show* obvious spoilers

    *Ep1*
Klein is seen in the group of people that camped out for 3 days to get the game yet he is extremely ignorant to
the nerve gear and basic game controls?
you’d think he would do a little more research since he is this interested in it!

kirito says a single sword can take you anywhere in this world (this will be relevant later)

    *Ep2*
there are players who dislike the beta testers for bogus reasons.
why would you hate someone who is your best hope of surviving?

asuna and whats his name was right next to kirito after he gets the message for the coat he obtained.
then next time you see them they are randomly on the other side of the room

on the stairs after asuna finds out how to see peoples names kirito says
"theres a big limit to what you can do as a solo player"
which already contradicts his statement in the previous episode. and well…later events.

    *E3*
after irrelevant male A asks kirito what level he is kirito replies
"solo players target isolated monsters. it isn’t that efficient"
which would be fine and all if he want like the strongest player…
in fact if it was true then deciding to go solo was a pretty stupid idea.
he even in ep1 said having more then 1 other person would not work. so he never sticks to one story

kirito defeats santa(some special event boss) by himself re contradicting what he said in the previous episode

    *Ep4*
silca is trying to solo on a floor way higher then she can handle.she even forgot to keep track of how many healing items she had on her…why do they make every female in this series worthless in the end?
and honestly in a sword skill game it feels odd to have a best tamer.theres not even supposed to be magic yet
that’s exactly what pina was able to use. and you can revive your beasts if you do so with in a limited time frame
only a certain floor (47)so what are you supposed to do if it dies early?

we see silca her her bra and panties. come on now, shes a dam child! was this necessary!?

silica gets violated by a tentacle monster(which the same exact thing totally doe not happen in s2)
while screaming for kirito to help and not look? whats more important her life or someone seeing her panties?
she is too young to care about that as well…and even then teenagers commonly would never act like this.

silca gets violated by more tentacles! (wasn’t the first time absurd enough!?)

the pk leader says if kirito hurts her he will become a orange (this contradicts quite a few things later…)
does this apply to duels as well?

    *E6*
near the end of the episode after asuna asked kirito what he thinks about marriage.
you see the ghost of the girl that was killed…what the hell was that supposed to be?
does this explain how kirito comes back to life thru pure willpower?

    *E7*
near the start after asuna leaves Lisbeth and she looks at a picture on the wall that
seems to be her when she is younger (brown hair with 3 men)this bothers me just because she obtained information from outside the game…
so shouldn’t it be possible to connect to the real world?

it feels odd and unnecessary that you would feel cold or hot in this game.heck episode 1 confirmed you don’t feel pain
yet not only is Lisbeth shaking from apparently cold she seems to be getting sick?

come to think of it why does lizbeth have pink hair? didn’t eh mirror in ep1 turn everyone into there real forms?
    is hair excluded?

from a gameplay stand point i don’t understand why the hell you would design the dragons nest to be a huge hole in the ground that players cannot teleport out of

    *Ep8*
kuradeel after being told how amazing kirito is by asuna says
"one of those beaters" thus implying that at least 1 or more other people are labeled beater in =
this world and were never introduced to them

asuna slaps kirito he goes flying until he crashes in a wall this brings back the question from ep4
in which harming another player is supposed to turn you into a orange player right?

Asuma is the Vice commander of the Knights of the Blood Oath…why in all that is logical…
is she hiding behind kirito from someone who is her guard? she should (and does a bit later)
be able to pawn him. this is just going back to how utterly insulting this show is to female characters always needing
to rely on kirito and never achieve anything with their own power…

    *E9*
the boss room door is supposed to close after a group enters and not open until everyones dead or its cleared…
whats the point of negating crystals if you can just walk out? in s2 this same situation happens and the door opened after
    a fight was cleared.

despite the multiple times said a single player cant do anything and entire raid party’s being used to fight one boss.
kirito manages to kill the boss of fl74 by himself. and it was not even injured as far as we are aware.
kirito on screen was the only one who damaged it.

it was really unnecessary for the leader of the Knights of the Blood Oath to bother kirito over taking a break with asuna.
nor is there a single reason to agree to this proposal.

    *Ep10*
of the hundreds of people watching the fight how is it no one noticed the leaders cheating defense?
no one questions where he obtained the gear either.

kirito says "i was reaching the limits of what a solo player can do"
(despite having just pulled off utter bullshit last episode)

taking away kiritos crystals, forcing him to join a guild and forcing him to train…just endless plot devices.

The level of disappointment i have with this scene is unspeakable…a paralyzed kirito has to save asuna because
she hesitated to finish the job…we were finally going to have a female can do it too moment but no…
fuck that. kirito is god in the world. it revolves around him >.>

kiritos hand gets cut off and its all shiny but when he stabs his hand into the guy it almost looks
like the guy he attacked coughed up blood?

oh wait. asuna gets another chance! kirito seems traumatized from taking a life! its finally asunas time to shine!
comfort him and make him feel better! wha your gonna cry?
your gonna let kirito do what your supposed to in this scene? holy shit this is frustrating

asuna attacks god kirito who was traumatized thanks to her, why? the writers are worthless
and are only good at ruining scenes…

so magically they decide to do what should of been done from the start of this episode and just
avoid the front lines for a while.yup the guy in charge who clearly stopped you from doing that before is
going to let you now for reasons unexplained…
was the entire point of this crap just to give asuna enough of a reason to be with kirito on a emotional level?!
and while doing so constantly show how worthless asuna and every other female is when it really counts?
oh wait…they were already planning on taking a break together…this episode was pointless.
kirito even goes back to wearing his black outfit without any conclusion to the guild issue.

    *ep11*
from a gameplay perspective buying houses in sao makes no since…what benefit does it offer a player?
kirito as fought nearly every day apparently since it started for 2 years…and he spend most/all of his money.
this is ridiculous…imagine how long it would take a real player who needs to sleep, work, ect to obtain it then.
and for what? a fictional home? the hell?

while asuna is looking at sleeping kirito she suddenly thinks.
"he isn’t younger then me is he!?" asuna. you already know he is.
while i forget the exact moment i recall the line kirito said.
i should be around 16 or 17 now and auna replied i am a year older.

asuna wants kirito to give her a piggy back ride. kirito complains tho he is god and can do anything.
he suggest this takes too much effort. asuna again says something unnecessary like don’t look at my panties.
because totally when she is in love with him and its only a digital body it matters.

    *Ep12*
why the hell are children playing sao seriously? Cod is bad enough but a parent would buy and let a kid use it.
there needs to be a limit to stupidity.
even if it wasn’t a death game as asuna clearly said even fights in safe zones can be terrifying.
after seeing some of the creatures you deal with in this game a child would be easily traumatized.
oh so the nun lady admitted the children suffered terrible physiological trauma.

why would the monsters in a secret area under the town of beginnings that leads to something players should never see
only be in the lvl 60s???
hell for what purpose would the area even be available?…

😀 yet another useless female character that does something stupid so God kirito can save the say!

so Yui can summon legendary weapons that can 1 hit kill lvl 90 enemies. surprised kirito and asuna didn’t just ask her to give them some o.o.

so…of the 6000 players alive. the only 2 people that are happy….are Godiko and Asuna?…
i saw plenty of other really happy people…plenty of couples. but none of them were special enough for yui?

it wasn’t made quite clear but.doesn’t Yui have GM capability’s? couldn’t she of made asuna and kirito GMs too?
or is that too convenient? considering how much knowledge and godlike ability she has in the future.

    *Ep13*
Fishing and cooking skills in a combat focused game…this isn’t monster hunter theres no other point to fishing…
also again with the awkward people who are playing this.children and seniors.like hell a dude who looks like he is mid
60s or older would use a nerve gear…

the boss for floor 75 is way to OP one hitting, that kind of speed. come the fuck on.
theres 25 floors left man…the difficulty of the lvl 90 reaper wasn’t this bad he just had high stats.

Boring sidestories wich added nothing to the plot at all (I even skipped episodes because it was so boring …), forced romance, Main character comes really close to a Mary Sue, Asuna had been a decent character at the start but gets completly downgraded towards the end, turning into a helpless little princess, incest sister love asspull at the end for absolutely no reason … no, really. The only reason you might want to watch this show are the action scenes. But that’s it. Everything else is generic garbage.

I watched SAO because there was so much hype about it so I thought it should be pretty good.
But turned out to be my personal most overrated anime. Like he said, it had great potential and at the beginning i was really hooked up with this anime.
The art, fights, animation and music was great. And the setting and the general idea of the story that was intruduced at the begining was very promising.
But that was really all to this show. It turned out to have a nonexistent story and character(-developement). The characters were rather uninteresting and Kirito was just too op. "Things were randomly dropped in and then dropped out" which gave me the feeling that the animator/script writer had no idea what they were doing or why they added this and that and then just dropped it out the next episode.
At some point  I started to only watch the fights and then dropped it around episode 16 or so. I never dropped an anime I started to watch before…

Sword Art Online is a delightful watch as long as you accept going in that it’s INCREDIBLY stupid. Then you will be able to enjoy it.

Even better, the sequel series, whether by design or coincidence, does a lot to address the flaws of the initial run, particularly the sexism and harem stuff.

Question. What was the word you used when you were talking about how there are a bunch of chicks after him, then you said "and ppl say this show isnt blank". Did you say harem? Is that like a common term people use to describe animes where there are a bunch of girls after one guy? The reason I ask is because my bfs brother always talks about anime, and he tries to make it sound appealing, but it just isn’t. He likes to watch animes with a bunch of chicks and I just think its poor characters. I only like animes like paranoia agent, inuyasha. Honestly havent seen that many shows. I love Satoshi Kon, all of his work, and of course Miyasaki. Im open to watching new animes, but I need an enriching story, and awesome characters.

I loved the anime, but one main problem that stopped it from being rewatchable, was the fact that it felt-and was rushed. Now im just gonna say one statement: Dammit a-1 pictures, don’t try to squeeze a very good beginning arc into 14 episodes, that was the main issue. And as a result, most looked down upon the second season. I did somewhat dislike what happened to asuna’s character, but as long as it was one arc-I could deal with it. Nevertheless, the anime was pretty good, though when you try to squeeze good material into a small tiny present, u end up doing more harm than good. And just one more personal opinion: the fact that they rushed the first arc, means that we BARELY got to see kirito in dual-blades action, AND that asuna’s title of lightning flash never truly proved to us that she’s worthy of that much of a title. What that means is that she deserved way more action scenes, but could never fully shine because the arc was only a summary of the light novel. So overall, his and her times of shining were noticeable, but not enough to the point where I would be satisfied. Bottom line: if ur gonna put romance along with action in the show u gotta take things slow and steady, otherwise u get an unbalanced level of the two. Bottom BOTTOM line: take things slow and steady and u could have made both arcs shine a lot more beautifully,

Wait a sec, regardless of anything but your ratings and your own personal quotes. You said that SAO has an absolutely amazing soundtrack and insanely good animation. You also stated that Sakurasou has average animation and an OK soundtrack. You then gave SAO a 71 in OST and 69 in animation. Sakurasou was given, by you, a 74 in OST and 79 in animation. I have my own ideas but I’d like to hear, why? Also how do you decide your overall score? Its not even indicative of your ratings in areas of the show.

OK YOU HAVE CLEARLY NOT UNDERSTOOD IT OR HIS GOALS or the specials for that matter. BASICLY the first 2 goals, he wants both to leave with Asuna the 3rd were to go out with all three of the girls, he does not want this It FULLY exsplains this in the specials,

until i watched that i thought half way through it’ll turn into a weird ass harem anime; IN FUTURE and some of your vids ive seen you’ve not comprehended anything about the anime, your one on AoT THE CLIFF HANGERS attracted the people to stay in touch with the series and that’s what people hated because they could notice this even though it caused them to watch the whole series 🙂                   that’s what happened, the whole of the complaints wasnt with the character development IT WORKED, it was with the constant cliff hangers if you dont believe me go on chat and its histories crazy but that was the fact.

I would say the biggest problem was it feeling rushed, which i think it most likely was to be honest. Looking at all the characters u mentioned being thrown in for one episode it definatly seems like they just tried to get everything they could in but couldn’t develop the characters further. It seems like there was a lot more there but that they couldn’t do it not that they didn’t want to. Thats what i think anyways and besides that i enjoyed it a ton just wish they would have gone deeper and instead of the second season they would have made the story in SAO game 25 eps instead of half and half in 2 different games.

Man these reviews suck SAO’s almost as bad as school days?! i get that we should all stride to get more people into anime but we shouldn’t do it by saying everything is perfect in clearly flawed shows? It’s because of stupid reviews like this back when i first started watching anime telling me how everything is perfect in an anime that i later go watch only to find out the show was terrible makes me hate anime. Fuck this channel I’m gonna go look for honest reviewers that atleast tell me what about the show isn’t good
