Gary is the guy who says "WE MUST SAVE MY FAMILY!" all the time. The reason Kirito got pissed and killed Gary is because he teleported away with the teleport Chrystal and left his guild behind to die from the problem HE caused.

Whether they like or don’t like Kirito they’re clearly having fun watching it, given how much they smile and laugh.

I really hate these fucking assholes, I like how they assume we hate them because we don’t like their opinion on the main character, and the fact that they constantly not only complain about the main character and why anyone would like himAnd the fact that they constantly compare the original series to the abridged series

I enjoyed both. the abridged showed the side of kirito the original didn’t/wouldn’t show. And it’s just fun and funny. people on both sides shouldn’t take it so seriously.

What makes a superhero more interesting are their flaws more than their actual powers. That’s why we like Batman

Kirito (The original that is) is the personification of a martyr, and unfortunately, writing a character as a martyr makes all their decisions seem more predictable and less interesting. We live in a generation where everyone feels they can relate more to the anti-heroes than the heroes, it’s highly apparent that people like characters with flaws that allow them to develop and change throughtout the story. For example: Iron-Man vs. Captain America, who wins? Iron-Man (Note, this doesn’t mean I like Iron-Man more, quite the contrary, I prefer Captain America I swear, team Cap forever). What about Superman vs. Batman? If you guessed Batman then congragulations, your as smart as the everyday high-schooler who checks out his facebook 24/7. The point I’m getting at is the reason people like this Kirito over the original is because he’s not perfect, he has flaws like everyone else in the world, he’s a more relatable character, despite the fact he’s such an ass, he starts growing more and more as the show progresses further along, and that’s why everyone likes him more than the original.

I really enjoyed the humour of this episode but thats just my sense of humour and i know not everyone has that snarky sarcastic sense of humour.

I just realised that in the final battle against Kayabe the reason Asuna’s sword doesn’t disappear with her and Kirito has it is that married players share inventory space.

I know this is late, so I don’t know how relevant this is but…
You guys are right. Kirito’s an asshole. And that’s why I like him. In the beginning, he was funny and that’s carried me. However, as the series goes on, he goes through character development, and it started with the death of his party (minus Gary). As time went on, while he remained an ass, he started caring more about other players, and it got to the point where he legitimately wanted to help others, even if he knew it probably gonna end with him dead. So… Yeah, he’s a dick, but he’s dick you start to care about.

I find abridged!Kirito very relatable… Also, the whole "Dead Guild" thing doesn’t have much effect on Kirito’s behavior, beyond what we’re informed of, in canon, while here, he legitimately had PTSD from Sachi’s death. Also, that’s not the nature of an abridged series, which is meant to affectionately parody the original content by making humorous alterations.

I feel you’re commuting the key mistake of thinking that a character must be likeable to be a protagonist. This would make, for example, _Citizen Kane_ a bad film. Characters have to be _interesting_ .

What do you mean we haven’t seen it? The whole reason he helped the little girl last episode is because of the impact the death of the glitch girl had on him. Not just her death but her message about being better, I know he said he wouldn’t care but he unwillingly is. Even if subconsciously in honor of her memory. That’s change enough one episode after keep watching and he changes loads. Don’t mistake his jerkiness for not changing, it goes from being mean to just how he banters. I respect you like the original, it’s cool you have different opinion. But I feel your love for the original is blinding you to the positives in this. Almost the reverse of every one else whose love of this version won’t let them see any positives in the original.Your adamant you don’t like it but I sit here and watch you enjoy it, I guess it’s the mixed messages that are frustrating for me, not the fact you like the original.

I realize this was two years ago, but I’ll throw my 2 cents in anyway. You guys can like the original kirito all you want. That’s fine. And you can not like the abridged kirito. That’s fine too.

For me? Sociopathic Kirito of the abridged is far more personality in this series than in the original for a few reasons. In the original, Kirito was a bit of a Mary Sue. Sure, he was a decent enough guy, but it felt bland. He was more of an insert for yourself. In the original, Kirito was an obvious wish fulfillment character. But this Kirito has personality, just far in the opposite direction of the Mary Sue. He’s an asshole who doesn’t like getting called out for it. He’s a peacock showing off his feathers so much it pisses off the other characters. And he’s unapologetic for it until his emotions are veered into caring thanks to the trauma of Sachi’s death (see the mental break in episode 4 and all of episode 8 or 9, whichever is the 2 sword introduction).

But the main reason I love this abridged? There’s an actual overarcing narrative. There are through-lines. Things from previous episodes show up in later episodes.
That’s the biggest problem with the original. An episode would happen and then never reallt have relevance in the following ones.
He joined the killed and they died. And it never came up again. He helped Silica. And it never came up again. They see a real f#*&ing ghost after solving a murder. And it NEVER CAME UP AGAIN. See a pattern here?

The abridged HAS through-lines. It has references to previous jokes/worldbuilding. Fluffles keeps popping up! Kirito learns through the trauma of Sachi’s death over a large period of time – an amount of time suitable to that kind of trauma.

Tl;dr, The abridged had a tightly-woven narrative and personalities that the original left.
I mean, the rest of the guild might as well have been npc’s in the original for all the impact they had in the original series

But for anyone who hasn’t watch the original…

You can seriously stop after they finish the game and just use your imagination on what happens next. Create your own cannon, because oh boy is the Elfheim arc cringy.

    Super cringy…
