The most saddest thing is that at the end of the movie, once Chihiro is looking back at the entrance of the Spirit World, she loses her memories

I recommend checking out Princess Mononoke, it’s fantastic. Neil Gaiman wrote the english dub, so you know it’s good!

The film wasn’t necessarily commenting about capitalism only, the film leans on several themes heavily, such as greed itself and how it can come from even the best of intentions. The writers were inspired by Japan’s huge economic bubble during the 80’s, and I imperfectly quote a statement by the film’s creator behind the inspiration of the theme and the Japan’s economic boom; "Greed turned people into pigs". There are numerous countries that are getting swept by economic bubbles and getting trapped by the same greed, perhaps the best example right now may be the UAE, America(?), and especially China (which isn’t even Capitalist, but is corrupted by the same uncontrollable greed) with its enormous economic bubble similar to 80’s Japan.

Miyazaki did his homework when making each single film and the relationship movements of the characters, with sprinkles of mythology in em!

Her father is entitled. He drives the way he wants and eats the way he wants because he thinks he can solve anything with money – and they he can’t, as he turns into a pig for eating the magical food which isn’t meant for humans. It’s like the movie is saying there’s a magic in the world something beyond money and rationality, I think.

Fun fact: The last line of the film "I think I can handle it." was actually added in the English version and doesn’t match with the story because Hayao Miyazaki confirmed that once Chihiro was out of the station with her parents, she immediately forgot of the events of the movie.

No Face didn’t so much *change* identities, it seems like his main problem was more that he HAS no identity ("No Face"). He was hungry for acceptance, and got too voraciously needy. Or something like that?
