I feel bad for Rei II. Since she’s been replaced by Rei III, it’s sometimes easy to forget we really did lose the Rei that’s been there from episode 1, along with all her memories, experiences and progress towards coming out of her shell and learning to be human. Rei III only has vague impressions of any of that and a seemingly different personality, looking downright vindictive at the sight of Gendo’s glasses. It seems like despite sharing a soul, each one comes into existence with a distinct personality, considering how different the first Rei was as well.

Now that we’re getting to that point: can you do a full reaction to the end of Eva on google drive or something??

Its ironic how Shinji now seems to be the most sane and stable of the main cast

Something subtle you might have missed – when Misato enters Shinjis room, shes offering him…physical intimacy lets say.(confirmed by the director)..I guess Misato tries to "confort" Shinji in the same way she has dealt with her issues and maybe the only way she knows how..By her sexuality and physical intimacy..She has no idea how to deal with this situations and she only ever been a woman not a guardian/mother

When Angels invaded Shinji’s and Asukas mind there were a lot of things going on(memories, traumas, chaotic information etc)..Kinda sad and profound that Rei’s inner psyche is a barren sea of LCL and loneliness. No trauma,no repressed memories or fears like the other mind fucks..She is a "doll" and a clone without much sentiment, desire or past so it makes sense..

The weird structure coming out of Eva-00 (illuminati symbols and all), contains parts of most of the angels encountered before.
,The angel’s interaction with Eva-00 is very sexual in nature, as you picked up. Even the part where it takes in the angel completely is reminiscent of pregnancy.

It’s definitely implied that there’s a Ritsuko – Gendou thing going on..So it seems like Ritsuko is a tragic repeat of her mother.Even in her "thing" with Gendo and Rei/Yui taking her place and Gendo’s attention…Thats why she destroys the Reis..If you rewatch the series there are so much clever and slight foreshadowing about the Ritsuko-Gendo, Ritsuko-Rei relationship..for example that look(and zoom) in Ritsuko’s eyes when Gendo told Rei to come out of the "test tube" and have some dinner with him. in episode 17..a more subtle one is whenever Gendou is away on a trip or something, Ritsuko tends not to wear lipstick

I guess something of the old Rei’s soul lingers and is put within the clones..So she cries over the glasses and remembers that its not the first time

Also an interresting line when rei and the angel talk ..The angel says to Rei i think "There are so many of Us,and yet, you hate being alone " this is an interresting line..

The anime already gave some clues about the Rei’s true identity, but it is shocking to see how She is a replacement object …. and when She is making connections with Shinji, She is replaced. It’s sad to see how Asuka from the beginning of the series ended up getting so depressed at the end, and losing her usefulness as a rider. The end is approaching and it will be crazy, many revelations yet to come.

I know a commenter says Misato offers to sleep with shinji, but I have seen no evidence of that. Nor have I seen the director confirm that. It also would make no sense for Misato to do that. It would be like suggesting she offered to sleep with Penpen because she calls to him too. In my opinion, she simply tries to comfort Shinji in a motherly way.

i know there’s been a lot of comments on the order you should watch the last few episodes and the movie, and i’m not gonna get myself into that. BUT i do want to recommend you watch Shinji’s rant after you’ve watched everything. it’s basically shinji’s english va doing an small improv rant at the end of the series and it’s really funny (again after you watch everything since it contains spoilers)

Hey, thanks for trying to answer my question about that one scene in the last episode. My interpretation is that the Angel shows Asuka how other people see her: It’s not the other female voice actors doing their best Asuka imitation, its the characters themselfes that show how they think Asuka is like. And Asuka is confronted with the fact that she managed to fool every single person in her life with her empty persona. Nobody is able to see the real Asuka, so nobody can understand her.

I think it’s interesting because almost all viewers fall for her during the earlier episodes too. Despite her terrible performance during most battles even earlier on, many fans still consider her to be the most competent pilot of the 3. Only shows how much (over)confidence can fool others into thinking you are better than you really are. Most viewers think Asuka is better than Shinji, despite the fact that she routinily messes things up and needs to be saved by him in battle, simply because Shinji lacks the confidence to speak up for himself and demand recognition.

Sadly I don’t have time to write much more about the episode this week, but I guess giwrgos kalaitzantwnakis has written a nice comment that takes care of most of the important stuff. I’m looking forward for the EoE reaction in 2 weeks, nice to hear that you want to give us the full reaction.
