Yes! This is the reaction I’ve been waiting for since your started Evangelion.Also I 100% had your exact sames reactions towards Shinji when I first watched EoE.
Do not worry you are NOT in the minority when it comes to your feelings on Shinji. Definitely not.
Also here’s a fun fact: Rei’s voice actress is the same woman who voices Jesse from Team Rocket in the non-dubbed Pokemon Anime.

What is a bit less clear to me is how other impacts would have played out. It seems that when Adam or an Angel (descended from Adam) comes in contact with Lilith, an impact is triggered. An impact seems to be of rubbing the genie’s lantern, and a single wish is granted. Presumably, the angels would have wished for humanity to be erased and to repopulate the world with angels, which is why the plot of each episode was about stopping the angle of the week before it could reach Lilith. I’m guessing that when rei joined with Lilith (with Adam in her belly), that granted her a wish, but she chose to give her wish to shinji? As far as seele, I’m not sure what their original plan was as far as triggering an impact in such a way that seele / chairman Keel would be granted the wish — was that the point of sending Kawarou? Seele somehow convinced kawarou to fork over his wish to seele if he were to reach Lilith (but he decided against it and gave his live to shinji instead). With regards to the movie, it appears gendo beat seele to the punch by starting the impact with rei, but I’m not 100% clear on how seele planned to start the impact had he not done that — was their plan to hope that at least one of the nine mass production evas would reach Lilith? But they didn’t seem to be even trying to reach Lilith, instead they were focused on starting some ceremony with unit 01. It is all a bit murky. Perhaps a fellow viewer can comment below and clarify.

i have to be honest after rewatching eva 2 times my main advice to people now is to watch eps. 1-24 and then End of Evangelion. This way they get a full slick package of a story without the suddent shift in pacing and narrative. Eps25-26 should be optional after that, all they do is make peoplee resent and be let down by nge (i met people who watched only the series without EoE and obv they were very let down by it and hate it) . But EoE is a pinnacle imo, i adore this movie so much

When I watched the series….I was like man this is a lot to take in….but after researching the show more and understanding Anno’s mindset and condition while making it and how it shipped the characters and the narrative I honest thought it was brilliantly done…….when I said before that I dont think we are supposed to ”like Shinji’ is because in a way…..Anno is Shinji….and his character arch is a representation of the things we may hate about ourselves but may not want to admit it…or even deal with it
To ”like shinji” is kinda like an admission of kinda ”seeing yourself” in the character and that becomes a very dark place to be of feeling worthless, needing affirmation and validation or love of others, loneness, existentialism and escapism……the show while being a sci-fi show its deeply grounded in the human condition…..this show has influenced and changed the anime industry as a whole

Something I think a lot of people miss is that when Asuka was fighting the other Evas, Shinji didn’t get in Eva-01 because he didn’t want to, but because it was literally impossible for him to get in. You can see the Eva covered in red stuff, which is a hard plastic called Bakelite, so Shinji really couldn’t have done anything. He could only get in because Eva-01 decided to activate, brake out, and let him in.

Concrats 😁 SEELES Plan. They Build an Eva for every seele „boss“ but they are Not all complett. They wanted to Start the impact using Eva 01 (its the only one Made out of lilith) and become one with the eva series to be true living gods. I think gendo ikari wants to become one with Yui also Eva 01. in the End rei aka lilith let shinji deside if all become one or everything goes back to normal.

When Asuka says “Disgusting” at the end, she’s talking about herself, not Shinji. She’s disgusted at herself for accepting another person. But it’s conveyed in a way that makes it seems she’s disgusted at Shinji. Emphasizing the point that now that they’re individuals again, the meanings and perceptions they portray are wrongfully interrupted and creates conflict and suffering.

I read somewhere during character design they initially had Asuka as the lead but decided it went too far against the mecha genera president (female lead) and was too similiar to past projects Anno was involved with (female lead) so they made Shinji the main. I think that initial impulse kind of bleeds through because it feels like Asuka steals the show during the show and movie and rightfully so (but I’m biased since shes my fav).
