Mononoke evokes a feeling at the end thats so difficult to explain, and its not a feeling that I’ve ever gotten from any other movie.

Its almost a heavy hopefulness, like we all know what’s wrong, and we all know it can be fixed, and we all bear responsibility for it, and if we fail, everyone will suffer. That makes sense as a thought, but when you translate that into a pure feeling, it just has this immense weight and consequence.

Its just amazing. I usually can’t talk for ten or fifteen minutes after watching. I’m just processing that feeling.

People would find your reactions much easier if you mentioned keywords like "movie" and "reaction" in the title and maybe additionally tagged the video with hashtags like #moviereaction and #firsttimewatching.😅

If you want to see ghibli’s rawest depiction of the horrors of war, you need to watch Grave of the Fireflies. It is truly a devastating movie

Edit: just watched the end and heard you watched it, it’s worth a rewatch if your heard can bear it

Also, the curse is born form hate that enrages and blinds them

And Jigo’s not really evil, just he just basically wants to complete the order of the emperor who sent him to collect the Deer God’s head. Certainly a flawed character, but not really evil

Great review, it’s really a wonderful movie

The curse is hatred. Ashitaka’s quest is to see with eyes unclouded by hate, ie to see things as they truly are. And he has to see and recognize it in all the others he meets: Nago, Okkoto, Moro, San, Lady Eboshi, their various supporters. While Jigo was probably the antagonist lying in wait most of the time, hate was also the primary antagonist and Big Bad (if there can even be said to be one) driving all the human and animal factions to doom everyone. Ashitaka is cured because, despite being most covered by hate given physical form in the curse, he’s the one of all of them who sees through it all the most. And doing so was what led to his curse being lifted by the Deer God.

Nausicaa is also recommended. It’s an old movie, but it’s one of Ghibli’s masterpieces. This work has a movie and a manga, and it is said that the manga has a deeper content than the movie, but the movie is also a good work. I would be happy if you could add it to the list.

don’t know how many times i’ve watched the movie. it never gets old
it’s aired on tv on a regular basis in japan
Profound thing about the film is there are no antagonists in the story.
They just do what they think is right.
And Ashitaka kills some people even though he avoids fights when possible.
I mean we sometimes hurt people to have our own way. Thats realistic.
    the movie is masterpiece!

Lol you don’t look like you live in a sustainable cabin somewhere. Don’t kid yourself, you have been on the side of the humans all your life. Can’t change sides for one movie because it is a bit harsh on us. This is a movie about Earth, and we are still winning this sad war against the rest of the inhabitants.

The Japanese god is nature itself, not helping people.
It may be a living thing, a source that saves life, but it does not reach out by choosing a person.
    Daidaraochi governs life and death.
In the footsteps he walked, the grass exudes excessive life, dies, and a cycle of life takes place.
It is "hate" that leads the boar to a curse.
The heart that curses people goes crazy.
However, the crazy road is also the road, and the god of death is one of the gods.
Stopping the chain of hatred that spreads around the world is the greatest demand of modern Japanese people.
But we still don’t know the answer.
Don’t ask for the answer outside, the answer is always inside your mind.
If you can notice it, tomorrow’s world will be better than it is today.

Princess Mononoke is like the most overrated studio ghibli movie. They have way better movies like Grave of the fireflies, Porco rosso and Pom Poko.
