I noticed a distinct change in the art styles between the previous and this episode. In fact if you took the time you’ll notice a lot of changes in the character designs.
It was actually a common thing in anime productions back then. Many episodes would be worked on simultaneously, and so there were different people in charge for each episode creating a sort of dissonance in the series.
Most infamous was the fourth episode of Gurren Laggan. Don’t know the whole story, just that the final production was crude af.
