What a dissapointment… This movie is a mixed bag of too much pointless new things, too little time to really build something new out of it and unnecessary CGI on top. Like the NGE series it`s mostly gibberish trying to sound and look cool but this time without the charm the original had.

I watched this movie high and let me tell you I had no idea what was happening. I then watched it sober a week later and still have no idea what was happening. Cool animation sequences though.

I remember watching the first movie in 1998 in a theater in Osaka, Japan and being confused AF. I stumbled across this while looking at the Prime Video menu. I’m glad to finally bring closure to something I used to watch in the 90’s. It all makes sense now.

It’s not often for a magician to lift his spell out of compassion. Yet Anno did it. He introduced "will" to his audience to conquer the never-ending cycle of hope and despair that keeps everyone engaged in the story. Unfortunately, many have grown so accustomed to the dancing shadows that they don’t even realize how they were just shown the exit to the cave – or what an exit even is.
This movie is an anti-movie. Very fitting for a time of massive change such as this. It’s time for the dreamers, the Shinjis of this world to awaken. Beautiful world, beautiful boy.
