Meh, the anime didn’t "OMG they ruined it", but they did mess it up a bit.
The Manga had a slow burn to the reveal of the Interior MPs. Over several chapters they got closer and closer to the explosive reveal (one of THE best parts of AoT by far). But in the anime its all revealed in the first episode so there NO buildup. But they totally nailed the action scenes. 10/10 there.

The whole taking over the government bit was rushed and its all over way too soon. Likewise, Marlow + the reporters gets way too little screen time and Reese gets like 1 episode instead of the 5-ish chapters he was in in the manga.

They did get rid of the torture scenes but who cares. For such a rushed season they didn’t skip anything important and TV standards / censors are different than in print. Nothing of value lost there.

Surprised Foxen didn’t mention this (or maybe it would be in another vid), but there are so many questions in this part of the story that have not been explained, even in the manga.
-Why was Reiss in jail in that one bit in the flashback?
-Why did Reiss’s lover get killed? It seems like he went to pick up mom + Historia before the PMs got there. Why was he forced to go behind their back? The manga says that "The Assembly" ordered their execution. **BULLSHIT**! I know Grisha had stolen the Founding Titan but the Reiss family is supposed to be dictator supreme. Reiss shouldn’t have to do anything behind their backs. I think that the mom knew something. Like Reiss cried and confessed something horrible to her that was so bad that "The Assembly" could now over-power Reiss.
-What is up with the Wallists? They existed before Wall Maria fell, but right after that they gained more power. Why? Was Reiss using them or something to counter "The Assembly" because the Wallists followed Historia instead of killing her like "The Assembly" wanted her to.
-What was up with Rod’s magic medicine bag? He has a bag that has Titan super powers in a jar. And he had several jars. Where did he get them, why does he have them, what exactly do they do, what are they? I guess we will find that out later.
-What was up with Rod’s super titan? Why does Rod get a super Titan because other royals just turn into regular titans, not double colossal sized ones. Was it because he licked it? Was it due to Rod’s genetics specifically? Is that why he never inherited he Founding Titan, because he had bad genetics or something? The wiki says he was just an observer but that sounds like a lie.
-So once Eren was discovered as a Shifter why didn’t he get turned over to Reiss instantly? The second that Eren got back from plugging the hole he should have been taken by Rod and eaten. Why were the Scouts allowed to take him on many, many super dangerous missions? And the secret MPs have no problem killing Scouts out in public so why not just do that from day one?
-Why did Rod lick the spinal fluid at all? Why did he WANT to be a titan. He could have turned himself into one at any time but he was really dead set on converting Christa.
-Why didn’t Rod have other kids? He had 5 years of not dicking around in which he didn’t make more kids. Is it because he loved Christa’s mom so much he could never go out with another woman (because that sounds like a cool storyline AoT would follow). And even if Christa gets the Founding Titan Rod (or Christa) still need to have a bunch of babies for {spoiler} reasons.
-How in the shit did Grisha find out about the Reiss family? Dude somehow finds out about the secret Reiss family, where they live, and what they do… by himself. While being a full time doctor with a wife and 1 (2) kids.

this was my least favorite season , as a tv show ( didn’t like the opening and ending credits , didn’t like the graphics , didn’t like how Eren was portrayed , ect) less magic then the first two . but in manga form , those are the best chapters 🙂

My rant/review of the first half of this Season:

    1. No Titans
    2. Politics
    3. Fanservice (Levi and Historia)
    4. No explanation of what Reiner and Bertholdt were doing all this time
    5. Eren’s a useless prick
    6. Less focus on reclaiming Wall Maria as foreshadowed at the end of Season 2

The only compalin that i have got about this season is lack on eren. He completely was missing from the season. But may be it was for the greater good, result of that lot many other characters shined pretty good and story feels lot more engaging now.

The start of the seasons was atrociously slow and such a huge curve was taken with the story ark, that it took some time to sink in. Also some questions left unanswered/barely mentioned or stupid "patches" made to the story during all the episodes and the generic animation during the 80% of the time did not helped for better experience as well. Maybe they’ll fix some of the stories with some OVA, still left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think I’ll side with S01, though. It was a bit more "generic", but still surprising in some key moments.

season 1 was undoubtetly the best, yet i still love season 2 and 3. i love how they only give a small amount of information about the secrets in this world every season, keeping the audience guessing. every episode is exciting and gives me kind of a goosebumps, looking forward to the next season.

AOT does a great job in action, but the story its telling is an absolute mess. It’s constantly focusing on nationalistic pride rants or on Eran whining about not being "special," good for you dude. Meanwhile the entire Titan plot and all its interweaving is left to rot.

I watched the anime exclusively, all the way through. By the end of what we have now (mid season 3?), I still had NO FUCKING CLUE what the hell was happening. I finally decided to check out a synopsis on the manga, since I’m not a manga reader. Turns out they left SO MUCH out of the anime that it was completely useless, in terms of plot and exposition. The things they did manage to explain or include in the anime are disjointed and lack connection because of all the significant cuts made. For example, Historia’s entire history subplot was completely uninteresting, because not only do we not know until the last possible moment why she’s important, we don’t get ANY explanation for the memory wiping older sister who visited her. What have we actually been told about Frieda in the anime? Almost nothing. The entire crystal cave event with Historia refusing to eat Eran was utterly lacking in impact, because none of it seemed connected with anything else, and then OH LOOK The Weeping Boy is Big Titan saving the day again. -_- So many plot points are left out of the anime that you just data dump stuff like that, because clearly it’s not important in the framework. Then they give us a tiny bone of connection, and… then we’re jumping to some other squad somewhere, leaving it completely in the lurch.

So while the anime will probably be great action-wise, I don’t expect it to start making any sense at any point. They’ve butchered the plot in favor of long-winded crying scenes that explain nothing, add no impact, and it requires investigating the manga to put the pieces they’ve left laying on the ground together. Which, to a non-manga reader, is really frustrating, because the anime should at LEAST be cohesive enough to tell the damned story.

I liked it and disliked it. I liked how they animated the fights. I liked how they handled flashbacks. But I hate the lack of character development (Historia, Levi, Reeves). Plot was also rearranged.

As an anime only, I thoroughly enjoyed this season, while some parts got a little slow at times, I really enjoyed the character development of Eren, Historia and even Levi. I didn’t come into this season with any expectations or complaints from reading the manga, and I think that’s what Isayama wanted when he rewrote this arc for the anime, he wanted people to come in with an empty mind and to take the anime as a seperate medium than the manga.

I feel like Erin being a crybaby isint for nothing. He had gone through a lot. He literally has humanity depending on him and he’s failed multiple times. He feels like he let everyone down. He thinks he is useless so he is tired of being mad and hopefull. All he can do is cry. It makes sense and he didn’t just suddenly turn into a big baby they built it up in the last episodes of season 2. So I don’t hate how Erin is super winey it’s just more realistic.

I thought it was an "investment" season in the sense that it invested in character and story development. But I think it could’ve had some more action. Even so, I’m still left wanting more…which usually means (to me) that it was a good season. I don’t like to compare seasons to seasons because each season has a different purpose and they build on each other. Season 3 built on the last season, so mission accomplished.
    Nice analysis Foxen.

Attack on titan is failing because it isn’t appealing to some audiences. For example I don’t like how the fight scenes are so short and Eren is a punk. He can’t do anything to help. If you think it’s because there isn’t no titans and that’s the only reason that we don’t like it then youte fucking stupid, I should punch you where you stand because you can’t handle it. The truth. And the truth is pussies watch this shit without criticizing it to become better, you fucking fools, ouh somebody pls respond to me. I want to finish this

I didn’t like the season for the most part.
Had nothing to do with all the talking or lack of action. It’s the fact that this season focused on everything I didn’t care about; the mystery of what’s going on in the wall… which is INFINITELY less interesting than what’s happening outside the walls. The scene that showed the beast titan at the end? That’s honestly where this season should have started. Everything else felt like filler, or at the very least felt like it could have been condensed into 4 episodes. If the entire season is going to be talking, I at least want it to be about interesting things; that’s why I originally got drawn to this world. This wasn’t interesting for the most part, least not more interesting than the concepts and themes we were introduced to in season 1 and 2.

Kenny’s introduction was also some of the worse writing I’ve seen in this series. They literally reference him for the first time right before he attacks. lol what!? This is starting to feel like Dragon ball levels of writing.
