Do you need to watch the different adaptations in a specific order?

All I really know about the anime is that the manga is finally out in English, and that it inspired Yo-Kai Watch. I’ve only really ever seen Junji Ito Collection and JJBA (if that counts as a horror anime) in terms of spooky stuff, what else do I check out?

from what I remember looking at the Japan Animation TV Rankings that ANN reports back when "Hakaba Kitaro" originally aired it’s probably the highest-rated show the Noitamina block ever aired.

Thank you. I’m hunting down GGGnK fans and trying to get more people into the franchise, particularly through AMVs. It’s my childhood, and since it’s "replacing" DBS, with the new reboot this year, I’m going around spreading the word and informing people about it.

We all jerks, but have to think we are not. We all are jerks, but have to think those who we love are not.

Because if not, we would hate more than love.

saying that this is a darker take on the manga is an understatement. Kitaro is much less sadistic in the manga and Neko-musume doesn’t die as far as I know.

Not a reboot. A version of.
Kitaro is an institution with many incarnations.
    Reboot is a misnomer.

kitaro is really underated, it really should be more known outside japan

Well I think this adaptations is from one of the mangas that was drasticly diffrent then the rest ! Kitaro is usally a kind hero character who wats to help youkai and humans to gel along ! But one manga was made where he was more brute, jerk and anti hero ! I think it was trying to adapt that one instead of the original one (there is already allot of adaptation of that one anyway) So I think it’s a great idea to make that serie ! (for the info Nezumi otoko is horrible whatever the adaptation and Medama oyaji is always this cool)

Yo! I remember watching this show long time ago with my brother, I also remember the Japanese live action movie.

I’ve seen Library Wars and the first of it’s live-action film counter-parts. Regrettably while I’ve wanted to watch Hakaba Kitaro being myself I really want to try and force myself to sit through 100+ episodes of the Isao Takahata series first and I’m just not ready for that.

I think it’s much easier to sympathize with the characters of Kitarou if you stop trying to push your human values unto them and stop pretending that they are humans. ‘Cuz, you know, they’re not. They are the kinda monsters we write ghost stories about.

Why does this version of Neko-Musume look so different from her design in the manga and the main animes?
