There is a quick moment when he is holding eri where she is holding her hand on his chest and it blocks out the zeros on the million in his costume. In the manga it was a chapter art. So he wanted to save a million but he was able to at least save one.

thats why mirio and midoriya are a like because they always smile to show the victim that everything is going to be okay and they have the determination and compassion to always stand on their feet. Also, mirio did the same thing when midoriya didn’t have his quirk in season 1 to save bakugo but still went even when he was quirkless because he wanted to save his friend. these two i love the most

I think Mirio didn’t know that the gun had quirk annihilating bullets. He probably thought it had normal bullets. Maybe he didn’t saw exactly what Overhaul was throwing at the shooter guy.

Quick comment, it’s not in Mirio’s character to just let Eri get shot, even if it was a quirk erasing bullet.
Mirio, along with characters like Fatgum and All Might, are heroes that don’t believe in "acceptable losses". He even says words to those effect when taking the bullet for Eri. Even if Eri wasn’t going to be hurt, Mirio would never forgive himself for placing her in such a position a second time

I hear so many people say he should just run away with her but where’s he gonna go honestly? He’s not strong enough to break through the walls and let’s all remember that his clothes stay behind (minus the costume) when he uses his ability in other circumstances. I’m pretty sure Eri isn’t going to automatically absorb his ability to go through walls so he’d be leaving her behind if he tried to do that, or else hurting her by running her face first into something she can’t go through. You’re honestly the first person I’ve seen who’s actually caught onto that (at least during the period of the video’s recording).
As to what happened in the last scene when he was injured, it may not be perfectly clear because it was kind of a slideshow, but if you follow the momentum of clothing and hair and the pose of the bodies, I think he pushed Eri back away from Overhaul’s attack and got impaled instead of her.
