I just binged all of your videos. I love the amount of research in related topics, like psychology, that’s been incorporated in all of them. I’ll be gladly looking out for more.

Nah, for me it reminded me of Utena.

Maybe I’m wrong here but those girls are similar to the normal rarity ones in the Love Live mobile game. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve only seen the first episode but as one of the "First Fifteen Minutes Are Boring" people, I have to say that while I appreciate using the first part of the episode for characterization, my problem lies moreso in the execution of that characterization which I found very underwhelming which ultimately lead to me finding the first fifteen minutes boring.

More videos showcasing why the events outside the revue are important are always appreciated. I’ve already joined the Revue Starlight train but with this video I’m certain many more with tag along for the ride.

Am I the only one who loves the first 15 minutes even without the subtlety and plot? I would absolutely be down for watching a show about girls in a theatre school working to put on a play if it had the level of cinematography, direction, and great dialogue of that portion. Of course, what we got is even better, but still, the strongest qualities of that first portion were incredibly engaging to me as well.

i honestly thought that this anime was just another bushiroad-funded anime which will gain success from its songs or games, like bang dream, but i was surprised that it became something else entirely. i mean look at those seiyuus, this anime is basically a bait for someone who’s into love live or bang dream.

    Hey,this is great video!
The first 15 minutes is actually we can see the characters Development or character psychology why they need to win the Top Star. One by one…

Btw,i love that you give a chance to watch this anime.Definitely a best anime of this season!

I subscribe to you since Yuru Camp!

Didn’t care for it at all personally. I did find the first 15 minutes pretty dull, but then I wasn’t sat there absorbing every little detail and picking up on all the hints of where it was going. I was just watching a bunch of dull girl do and say dull things. The last few minutes were a great visual spectacle, but they felt so disconnected and over the top that I had nothing to say other than ‘Uh. Okay.’ by the end of it. I don’t have much interest in watching episodes 2 and 3 but if it does turn out to be an amazing series, nothing is stopping me from picking it up in the future.

I generally pick one or two shows to follow each season and I’m really glad I picked starlight. It’s one of the best new shows I’ve seen in a while.

I feel like this is the type of show, where most people will understand it’s value only after it ended(like happened with Houseki) or it fail to deliver and wiil be completely forgotten at the end. I’m actually really impressed how much stuff they were able to cram in the first three episodes, considering we have 8 characters with a lot going on with them. You could already see most of the internal conflicts and room for potential development and it’s done in way that both subtle and straightforward. It allows you to think about little details and what they mean in the grand scheme of things. And I’m talking just about so called "boring" slice of life parts.
Perhaps the biggest problem for me is that the relationships between two main characters is the most standard thing possible for this type of show, and both Karen and Hikari doesn’t have that much presence aside from "I am genki baka" and "I am mysterious transfer student". I hope we’ll get something more from them in the future and in not so standard way.

The first few episodes can be a little confusing on understanding what the whole idea of the show is but personally, that’s fine. I watched the first 2 episodes and I kinda got a rough understanding of Revue Starlight. I really love the anime for how oddly unique the concept and execution is among the other animes this season.

I can’t wait for the mobile game to come out.

This show has been absolutely blowing me away so far. I will say, I’m still confused in tons of regards but I love that feeling for this show. I haven’t been this excited watching a show in a while.
Me being me, I have to point out that Fujisawa has been doing some of what I think is his best work ever. The music is so, so good, and if it stays at this level of quality will most likely be my pick for Anime Score of the year. The score is the perfect amount of idealistic while also producing mystery, not to mention the crazy amount of variety but also cohesion. The orchestration of various syncopated lines playing against ambiguous themes, very much like a minimalist or impressionist French style, is so incredibly well handled. It is crazy good. Package that up with the Sound Director You Yamada and you have a recipe for greatness. Sorry this show and particularly the score got me freaking hyped as all hell.
    Great video as always!

Haven’t seen the second or third episode yet, but I like your take on this. I was pretty engaged from start to finish, though I do wish the character introductions had been more unique as they did feel kind of cliche and tropey.

Btw, Hidive could not sub the duel song when they simulcasted the first episode because the license for insert songs sang by the seiyuu is held by a different company than the one that holds the license for the show overall. They did get that figured out since though, as they added the English song lyrics and fixed other translations errors. Just FYI.

This is a great albeit short analysis of why this show is so wonderful and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

This anime is even better with the composer Yoshiaki Fujisawa, who previously worked on Houseki no Kuni. You can feel his distinctive piano tracks in both shows. Of course, gotta give credit to the fellow composer Tatsuya Kato, too. They are doing great.

On a side note, Revue☆Starlight’s studio, Kinema Citrus, seems like is having production problems such as shortage of animators to the point that they are looking for one online via Twitter. You may regconize their fantastic work on the mastapiece Made in Abyss and they still have plan with MiA’s cinema recap movie. Even though admitting wonder if they can finishes Revue☆Starlight the way they planned, Kinema Citrus is working real hard right now to produce quality R☆S episodes while making way for future MiA projects.

I’m really rally scared about the current situation of Revue Starlight’s production. This has been my favorite anime this season by far (along with Planet With, which you should check out, Kamimashita :3) and I’d hate to see it fall apart on the production side. Hopefully everything will turn out good.
I also had Madoka vibes from the first episode, and never understood why people only started to like Madoka by the third episode (well, I definitely understood why, just didn’t understand why they didn’t like the first two) and I think it all comes down to the direction. It’s so subtle, but both shows have that "off-ness" feeling that somehow tell you that something’s just not right in that particular world. I love that feeling.
    Great video, btw 🙂

The people that says the beginning of the episode dull is missing out things.
A lot of details you need to pay attention to, you will miss it in a blink of an eye.

This is an anime you need to watch a few time each episodes to catch the details.

I find it funny that the title of this video is such a common opinion, because for me, I’ve consistently enjoyed the "first fifteen minutes," and it has generally been the last few minutes of Starlight that start losing me. That said, maybe I’m just not looking deep enough into what’s going on.

First I though this was an anime about idols so I skipped, then checked in reddit some comments saying the first episode is amazing so I jumped into it. Best decision for me this season, I think it’s the best show this season so far.

Interestingly, I haven’t encountered anyone who though it’s boring … except for myself.

I see all the stuff you mentioned, yet I find the character simply uninteresting. Defined only by "what does being a star mean to them" and not much else. And I feel I haven’t been given a reason to care about any of the characters. Heck, I feel most for the MC’s room mate, because MC is not paying much attention to her.

it doesn’t help that I’m blind to metaphors though…
