Dude I was wearing headphones while watching the show. While they were doing the whole heavy breathing thing. It felt like ASMR; really that it it just sounded weird if you didn’t get context. If you watched another way you probably couldn’t tell.

The manga is almost *completely* different from the anime. It’s like the difference between Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 & Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Ayano’s coach in the manga is Danish, his name is Viggo (like Viggo Mortensen lmao). Her dad is actually an important character too. She’s not a PTSD-afflicted person who’s traumatized either.

The most unlikable main character this year so far. I hope it doesn’t get a second season.

Great review. Thank you. And agree fully with the Uchica scene. Did not like that part of the ending, but hey, we can’t always get what we want. Definitely my favorite series of the 3rd quarter of the year. It needs a second season.

The ending was pretty much what i expected out of the show with the exception of the mother, overall a bad show for not dealing with that problem in of itself.

in my personal opinion I think this is one of the series that the end broke for me. I am upset for the lose of ayano but it makes sense in terms of story and character growth but there are parts where it really bothered me on how easy the mom got off like "lets play some time" seriously? in the other episodes ayano was going to abandon her mom when she was talking to Connie ayano seemed pretty convinced that no matter what mom says she’ll never forgive her but in the last episode she did. Like WTF and yes it did deviate from the manga but the pacing and the tone was all over the place I personally would rather have a character stick to their guns and do what they say not just oh I lost I gonna switch personality. The whole series was building ayano’s physiological issues and then at the last episode it vanished because of the power of friendship what was the point of the build up just to do that type personality switch to being a psycho to all is better I’m happy again in a split second

i hate that it had a predictable ending i wish she destroyed her mother emotionally for what she did to only fell deeper into the darkness would have made a good session 2.

I really enjoyed the show, especially the great animation but I have to agree with you Chibi, the mom didn’t deserve a happy ending and none can surpass that kind of trauma in basically a half game that’s was so freaking unrealistic. Also, I agree that Nagisa needed to win to be able to help Ayano but I think that the whole injury thing was managed really bad like it was unnecessary because it didn’t affect Nagisa performance at all, she was jumping, running, dribbling, better than ever and even after the game she was practically fine in two weeks. Personally, I didn’t like that Nagisa defeated Ayano when she had an "injury" I know she is a hard worker but defeating Ayano that 21-0 her like a year ago it didn’t make sense because Ayano is more talented and also a hard worker I know Nagisa studied Ayano gameplay but even though Ayano used her right hand to play Nagisa was like nothing just reaching her level, my point is Ayano needed to lose but not that way. I liked most of the characters but I really hated Ayano’s mom and the coach for being so freaking biased and only support and care about Nagisa.

Great match between Ayano and Aragaki. I was worried about her knee, but glad they didn’t have to stop the match. The mother will never be forgiven and she barely reacted much when Ayano told her off. Also gotta like smug Ayano at the end.

All these people talking about the manga being better by the sound of things they don’t resolve the conflict between Ayano and her mom much much better than they do in the anime as a matter of fact based on what everyone is saying it sounds to me like either or in the manga or anime the mom ends up getting exactly what she wants and Ayano just becomes a pawn to someone else’s will.

I think it’s more like Ayano’s mom sees everything in life through the metaphorical device/act of badminton. She also saw several things about her daughter: 1) her daughter was talented, 2) her daughter loved badminton, and 3) Ayano only wanted to play badminton with her mother. Her mother also knows some other things: 1) As a mother and person the only thing she has to offer her daughter as a skill is badminton [which is a terrible judgement, but it’s almost like teaching your child farm work, or a craft so they don’t die whenever you can’t take care of them anymore], and 2) if her daughter is going to become an individual who is going to play badminton professionally for a living then she has to be the top of the top percent of players. And in order to do that, Ayano has to learn to stand on her own two feet and find her own drive for playing the sport. And by finding that drive in turn find a meaning for her life. Ayano’s Mom couldn’t articulate any of this (probably because she lacks any kind of communication skills because all she knows how to do is play badminton) so she taught the lesson in the way she knows best by acting it out.

Now that understanding Ayano’s mom did her very best to teach her daughter how to play both the game of badminton and the game of life successfully we can all say with full appreciation that objectively Ayano’s mom is a terrible person and shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near children at all. I’m not sure who decided to procreate with such monster, but that guy needs to be stopped to. Rule one folks: DON’T STICK YOUR CHIN-CHIN IN CRAZY!!! Most if not all the problems in this serious could have been stopped if Ayano’s mother learned the concept that you can explain things to people without having to ABANDON YOUR CHILD!

Not that the end really surprised me. Looking back, it had to be like that. But it’s just too clichéd. All the antipathy against the mother, which was built up over the whole series, is 98% exhausted. Connie was completely hidden at the end and also the coach came away unscathed. All in all, Hanebado is not a bad anime, but towards the end he almost quelled himself. In favor of a cliché, too many aspects have been shut down or completely omitted.

I don’t get all the hate coming out now. Aragaki was built up as the underdog from square one and out of all of Ayano’s opponents, Aragaki knew of her strength and prepared like crazy to rise up to the challenge when everyone else didn’t. She underwent a great character arc in the beginning and showed off a good work ethic throughout, and pushed through her injury to the meet the challenge. I see some claiming it was plot armor that she was able to power through the knee injury, but people are overlooking the fact that due to the injury she lost steam and slowed down later in the fight. The real BS I called was Ayano suddenly being right-handed despite no foreshadowing of that skill. Another thing people are saying that was bad, was the "power of friendship" that Aragaki supposedly got in the end, which yeah she had one close friend cheer for her, but everyone neglects her whole internal monologue about not wanting to lose to anyone and the sheer willpower she showed with her powering through the injury. Shit the only Friendship power up that I saw was for everyone whom Ayano kept dissing and made fun of, cheer for her, and she was suddenly able to make a comeback like nothing. Yeah I get it the last couple of episodes moved kinda fast and they could’ve used more time to explain a few things, but overall it ended great. Aragaki is injured but vows to keep going; Ayano forgives her mom (albeit a little to quick for my taste), and keeps her sass, and we get a Rocky 3 ending scene.

This was easily a 8.5/10 in my book due to good animation, lighting, designs and overall good (not the best ever but very good) story and makes me want to read the manga, and wait for a season 2.
