I agree with everything Shambu-chan said except for when he said that thing about the one thing because saying that thing about the thing when there was also the thing just shows that the thing was the thing.

I felt that the anime had the potential to be great since I loved the revues for the animation, fights, and character development but the some of the characters were still somewhat flat to me. I also felt that there was a slow start to this anime. My interest for this show didn’t start to rise until episode 5. Before episode 5, I liked the revues but they didn’t seem to be that impactful. Overall I still enjoyed this show.

I disagree with the story being lacking. I do agree that some characters seem to be pushed to the background after their own week, the story itself as a whole has so many levels in it that watching the show once or twice will make you miss a lot of things that are important. This show has one of best written stories i have seen in years.

This anime is produced by Tomohiro Furukawa, who worked under Ikuhara Kunihiko and participated in MAWARU-PENGUINDRUM and LOVE BULLET-YURI KUMA ARASHI. Kunihiko is the director of Revolutionary Girl Utena, who is well known for his unique graphic designs in the anime. Therefore it’s not surprised to find Kunihiko’s shadow in Revue Starlight. In my opinion, revue starlight has been made audience-friendly as much as possible. If you watch Kunihiko’s work, you might find it way more unique graphically and the storytelling is also super weird.
I think Shoujo Kageki is unique in a way that it breakthrough the expectation we usually have in an idol anime.

I don’t know if you’re doing this on purpose to not spoil the anime or you are completely missing the main points of the story. Rather than focusing on Revue, the main plot is actually starlight……
those scenes which you find annoying or completely pointless are actually important notes of the story. Especially the eating scene…… if you rewatch each episode and compare those eating scenes (or mainly ep7, I forgot XD), they are one of the indicators of different timeline, and it directly reflects how all timelines are slightly different. It is also an indicator of the relationship changes between all characters. This makes how important that last party scene is, because it shows that the loop has been over and starlight turns into a happy ending instead of a bad end (separation).
In addition, like how you said that this anime is a musical act. If we don’t forget that, 5:00 is the moment when Karen introduce herself on stage to the audience. The rest of the characters also had that part. However, only Karen is doing it alone, and it indicates she is the protagonist of this whole act.
I would say Ep 11 is actually pushing up to the climax of the whole series. It is this episode revealing the truth of starlight and that Karen finds out Hikari is the star she wanted (kirameki), and decide to jump on the stage again to save Hikari. Also with all other Theatre Girls’ determination to become a greater star and shine on stage, and even if failing, they will still reborn again and again. And the song Butai Shoujo Kokoro’s lyrics which plays along explains it well. I think this episode is the most emotional one anyway.
So I am just thinking that I dont find a moment of Shoujo Kageki being boring or pointless. However, I do agree that some of the characters might be too flat due to the limitation of time they have for each character, and also the story might have been lacking in explaining everything. At least I still find the story very consistent in explaining its themes and keeps bringing surprise to me even it’s just a simple story. Sorry for my poor english @@". I very much enjoy the time waiting for a new episode every week 🙂 I would call it a masterpiece for myself.
