Damn I’m lucky I got to watch this movie (many times) with the french voices because hell, they sound better. They fit the characters perfectly it’s one of the best voice acting job I’ve ever heard. The english main voices sounds very generic

The french San has such an attractive, wild voice. The french Ashitaka also has such a nicely balanced voice for the character, sounds as young as the character is while having a nice gravelly, viril, tone. The english Ashitaka sounds generic, but also older than the character.

    英語版、あったんだなあ。この当時は、まだボイスアクターでない人たちが吹き替えてますね。北米でもボイスアクターが増えたし、時代も変わったなあ。

Not bad but unfortunately, it has a too "Japanese" setting. The dialogue is kinda slow and uninteresting also. I’ve been exploring movies made by Studio Ghibili for my niece (8 years old), to expand her movie horizon from the usual Disney troupe, and so far I’ve been fortunate enough find Nausicaa, Laputa, and Kiki’s Delivery Service acceptable enough for her. Nausicaa was surprisingly good with no Japanese singing, and character names to pass as western, while Laputa was almost the same save for the ending song which feels cringe worthy at times. Kiki’s Delivery Service, I almost didn’t consider because of the Japanese songs, then found the rare Disney dub with Phil Hartman’s improvised lines and English songs. Not bad, I managed to give my niece 3 memorable watching experiences of Japanese movies. I was gonna consider the likes of Whisper of the Heart, From Up On Poppy Hill, Howl’s Moving Castle, Secret World of Arriety, Spirited Away, and When Marnie Was There… unfortunately, like Princess Mononoke, the dialogues from each are also quite slow and uninteresting, and have too "Japanese" settings.Besides, my old man is quite the prejudice when it comes to anime, calling them SJC (Stupid Japanese Cartoons). I keep contradicting him that "talking animals and furnitures" are better than real people then LOL

I remember the princess and the forest spirits being my imaginary friends. the film kind of scared the 4 yr old me but i loved it so much and i can remember it moving me to tears even tho i couldnt really grasp everything that was happening

Aslamo Alikum, peace and blessings of God be upon you. We are all brothers and sisters and children of one man Adam and one woman Eve. All people belong to God and God belongs to all of them. All people come from God and go back to God, so all are One. We are all in same boat and in same train which starts from God and ends at God. One of the God’s name is Ahsan-al-Khaliqeen which means whatever God created is extremely beautiful and excellent. So we are all beautiful and excellent. The beautiful girls and guys all around us in this world are nothing but our beloved sisters and brothers. Not only we humans are just one family but all the angels, all the devils, all the plants, all the animals, all the mountains, all the winds, all the oceans, all the insects, all the birds, earth, sun, moon, all the stars, all the planets, all the galaxies, all this universe and everything inside it is just one family created by God and there is nothing like God and none equals to God in anyway. He is All-Loving, All-Forgiving, All-Knowing, All-Merciful, All-Gracious, All-Wise and All-Powerful. So we have a very big family. May God forgive all of us and unite all of us in His love and mercy and in His obedience. If we will be thankful to God and obey Him, this world will become a paradise. And on Day of Judgment, God will give us even a bigger paradise so beautiful and lovely that we cannot imagine where all of us will live in joy and pleasure forever. Please never forget to say many thanks to God and praise Him all your days and nights and ask for His forgiveness all the time. God wants we love others like we love ourselves. Ameen. Jazak Allah. 🙂

Funny how this movie was trumped at the Oscars and on the international box office when Titanic was released the same year (even in Japan), after this movie was leading to become the largest grossing film that year world wide…

I saw this movie a very long time ago when i was very young and in the early 2000’s. After i saw it for the first time, i loved it and it moved me in a way. In the passing years i have not forgotten it, (kind of: it was a distant memory, until it faded from my mind) in Janurary-Februrary or something like that i suddenly remembered a movie, that movie was Princess Mononoke. The only thing i remembered about it was the forest god and the demon boar(s) and the wolf god. From early 2015 to early 2016 i pursued the old movie with intent of watching it again with a smarter and bigger brain so that i could submerge myself in its realm, in 3/16/2016 i finally found a website that cut the movie down into 7, 15 minute videos. i watched every single video, my childhood memory has been fully replenished and i am still replaying scenes of it in my head.

TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DEMANDING A SEQUEL TO THIS MOVIE : believe me when i say it will not work, IF a sequel would be made it would destroy the whole idea of this movie, here is why : disney for example made a lot of sequels to a lot of movies such as aladin or ariel, and look at the result, bad reviews, so sequels actually can ruin a movie plot, and another reason which is more important, Miyazaki is a genius man, he made a lot of great ideas regarding Princess mononoke, the battle btw nature and progress, hate and love and even characters are well developed, if he made a sequel there will be no great ideas, he will not make the demons come back again of course, and of course lord Asano’s war with lady Eboshi is clearly not an interesting idea, so the whole concept of a movie would be destroyed, even though most of us would love to see San and Ashitaka together but still the plot is not strong.
    THANK YOU FOR READING !!
