My neighbour Totoro, easily one of the borest and overrated movies I have seen.
The only thing that makes is "successful" is the cute outlook of Totoru.

(i hope i won’t spoil it too much) i love the fact that it’s a feel-good movie, there are no ennemies, no bad guys, and aside from maybe 5 minutes near the end where it gets a bit sad and stressful, the whole movie is just two sisters having fun with mystical or imaginary creatures

I hope the movie he saw in theater was the original dub because the new dub with Dakota Fanning sucks balls. I own the New dvd and I almost took the disc out and cracked it in half at how bad all the voice actors are it ruined the movie hands down this movie needs to be watched with the original voice cast.

My girlfriend forced me to watch this. In return I’m trying to make her watch movies like The Goonies, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, ET, Labyrinth, Gremlins, Jurrasic Park, Short Ciruit, Bill and Ted and maybe one of my favorite is The Wizard. We’re 15 so it probably explains why she hasn’t seen these but still. Anyway My Neighbor Totoro was adorable and I was sad I didn’t see this earlier. What I forced to watch though is Ponyo which might be one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies. I mainly love movies that has to do with water or rain or the ocean cause I’m from New Mexico and it never rains here. It’s my dream to move somewhere where it’s mostly rainy. This is a good movie, future generations should watch this movie, and uh always believe in yourself.

This movie does something rare, in my opinion. It understands what it means to be a child and then shows what that is. I am 35 years old, but this is still one of my favorite movies, becasue, even as an adult, i get taken back to the time when things where carefree and i could explore the world.

I’m actually not so into 3D animation. It’s not bad at all, but I’ve always been more drawn to 2D animation (get it?)

It just looks better in my eyes most of the time

My kids were obsessed with Ponyo. We watched it almost everyday for a week. So fun.
Lately we watched "My Neighbor Totoro" together and they loved every minute of it.
There are something magical about these movies that are so timeless and where adults and children can enjoy. The format does not even matter, whether it’s 3D or live action etc. As long as it’s done in the "right way".

    Much love and respect <3

This and Kiki’s delivery service were two of my absolute favourite movies growing up, notably, they were also two of the movies that my folks would always watch whenever my sister and I wanted to watch a movie when we were young. Truly one of the greats.

hayao miyazaki is amazing because he consistently makes great movies. Not good. Not okay. But great.
He should get more recognition for the fact he’s never put out an okay movie. Even Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Stanley Kubrick, and Woody Allen have all put out okay movies or even bad ones. Miyazaki hasn’t had one in the last few decades he’s been making movies.

The animation and the music are amazing. but what the fuck else was there, nothing happened during the movie absolutely nothing happens I was insanely bored watching this movie. I heard about this and as an insane lover of anime films and i love understanding and viewing directors artistic expression, but this movie was so hyped up it’s insane how gassed this movie was

The background story of My Neighbor Totoro is actually semi-autobiography of Miyazaki’s own childhood. When he was a little kid, he, his brothers, and his father moved to rural area to get close to his mother who suffered from tuberculosis and was treated in a sanatorium in rural area. In 1940s, tuberculosis was very hard to treat and patients were usually sent to special hospital in rural areas called sanatorium to be treated there. Miyazaki said that if the main characters were boys instead of girls, this movie would be too painful for him to direct.

They are still doing Ghibli-fest in ’18 and probably will go on for years now due to its success. Also, Regal Cinemas sells a pass for $75 that includes all the movies, saving you around $25.

i love 2d animation connects so much more with the viewer just knowing that you could also create these dreams just by sketching on paper or another abrings a whole other aspect then 3d computer animation thats still cool just doesnt have as much character to it

Yo Chris, I’m 16 and I have seen this film yearsss ago. It is easily one of my favourite anime films and it isn’t my favourite genre by a long shot. That said though this and Spirited Away bring me back to when I was such a young kid and they both still hold up when I rewatch them. I agree with everything you said in this review.
