I don’t get it but I’ll give it a shot… So I did it all I did was take my items away and give me nothing.

Yes… like probably said by other viewers below….. your final conclusion of "flooring gives more than cladding" is not true. Because the flooring is only one layer, whereas the cladding can convert an entire cube around your main character. Thus, you would build a dirt cube, then drop down in the middle of it and use the wall cladding to get FAR more than the flooring.

I like going away from my town, then just digging down 2 blocks, jump down the hole and use the cladding, then spin attack to collect the materials

For cladding, you want to seal yourself in a 5x5x4 earth box, that way the cladding will hit all 4 walls and the ceiling. Most bang for your buck.

As Alice said, 5×5 x4high, and then get right in the center and punch a hole to the bottom (4down from standing on top), and use your charged attack (hold attack). To further streamline, I’ve actually started taking all of the normal earth blocks I’ve collected and filled in the area beside the chalk mountains near Cantlin in a near-uniform gigantic rectangle mountain, exactly 5 wide; this way any time I need materials that I can create from cladding, I simply run to my mountain, punch a hole 3 blocks away from the leading edge, 4 blocks deep and set off the cladding.
It may not sound like less work, but I assure you that for a relatively short period of creating a solid rectangle mountain of regular dirt, it saves a hell of a lot of time actually attempting to build those 5x5x4 boxes every time you need mats. It’s not perfect, but I only lose a few blocks from the total 99 and I’m able to create and farm them all in about a minute or so.
