This was Amazing. The characters had their own story arcs in the first episode and I am looking forward to continuing this great series.

I usually don’t watch sports anime in general because I personally find it boring as hell… BUT this show, the first episode I actually liked it. c:

(P.S. I hope you also plan to watch Island becuase that was great too.)

Why watch a show about badminton?

This is anime, the only form of animation that can make baseball, tennis, cooking, volleyball, mechas fighting useless plot devices in space, poorly written RPG homages, & dirty sumo wrestling in swimsuits look action packed and exciting. So you can be absolutely certain they can do the same thing with badminton!

As a manga reader I’m actually happy at how they approached this first episode in comparison to the first manga’s chapter. It was a lot more focus on nagisa which I appreciate because it was geared more towards the coach’s pov very slightly in the manga. I’m so looking forward to seeing what this series is gonna give us. Especially because the guy who wrote a place further than the universe is watching over the script, and just the composition in the animation alone was superb.

Dunno… It looked gorgeous for sure, but it all felt overly dramatic to me. So far this anime just feels like it’s trying too hard − and from the little I’ve read, the manga isn’t _nearly_ as angsty.

Finally got around to watching this. Aside from the typical sporadic overly dramatic dialogue, this was a very solid start.

You can really tell the studio isn’t cutting corners and it’s honestly paying off bigtime, even if you compare the show to established sports anime, it can still hold its ground. I’m hopeful.

Hmm not too sure about this anime because I just don’t usually get into sports anime, but I sympathize with the conflict in this episode as this very rift happened in my own floorball team in middle school. Animation was really good though and the matches reflects the intensity of a fast paced badminton match. Still not too sure about this series but it’ll be KIV.

I instantly looked for reviews to validate my hype upon watching the 1st episode (never heard of the series before that) because I’m seriously hoping the quality isn’t a 1 episode thing. I mean the show manages to get me interested in almost all characters in just 1 episode. Hell, even the tennis underdog guy is an interesting character. That says a lot.

For anyone saying Badminton is stupid, if you go to China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia,or Vietnam, you’d get a smash in the face for saying that shit. It’s so popular in Asian Countries. The only reason Westerns, mostly American, say it stupid is because they don’t have the agility and enough reflexes to play it.

The only sport I like and follow is football (Soccer for all you americans lol) but even though other sports dont interest me in the real world they will always interest me in anime. Hajime no Ippo, Kuroko, Major, Haikyuu are some of the best anime there is.

Just to clarify, I pronounce it badmitten because that’s how it’s been pronounced around me where I’ve lived my entire life, I can only assume it’s a dialect thing, "bad-mint-un" vs. "bad-mitten" varying between different parts of the U.S./world but I don’t really care regardless, I’m surprised others do.

If/when I ever cover this series, I’ll begrudgingly force myself to pronounce it in whatever way is more universally accepted lmao.

The animation is great but I just think the fan service shots in the beginning match is just a little much. I mean who would play a sport like badminton without securing your chest? If the story is not this serious, more light hearted, I would have ignore it. People will say, it’s an anime, it doesn’t need to be accurate. I have to argue that the accuracy of these little details would make the story and character much more believable. Let’s say the characters in Haikyu played volleyballs in dress shoes, would you have the same immersion? I think not, so I am really curious what your take on this. Thanks.

final judgements will have to wait till after episode 3 since I don’t see this going past 12 right now. since I get you’re excited but a lot of seasonal anime can start strong but somehow ultimately drop the ball in some regard vs an anime that started weak but had a strong finish that surprised people.

in regards in how to judge it I really can’t say much since badmin isn’t really a sport I ever see people take this seriously or dramatically in some cases. so a strong start but with all the talk on the 2 mains there’s not much to say on the supporting cast which for any successful anime knows it needs more than just mains it needs the right kind of supporting cast that also have their own developments.

as for the whole hard worker and genius natural talent dynamic where for some reason that always seems to pop up in sports anime is nothing new but judging that aspect will have to wait till the finale to see how it started and handled in the end.

I wouldn’t say this is anime of the season yet since there’s some anime that don’t look impressive but I think goblin slayer also starts soon since that’s been something I’ve seen help overhype which probably means it won’t meet their expectations. so or right now I would say the characters the potential story and visuals have a chance making it winner over the actual sport of badmin involved here but that ultimately depends in how things are handled.

I liked the episode but I’m a little worried about the fact that the figth between "the one that works really hard vs the one that had natural talent" is something too typical that has been used a lot in sports related animes for a really long time.

So, I hope the anime offers more than that. But It looks really good despite that.
