If they keep it the same what’s the point of watching it you can watch the old animation Death Note I think everyone is putting way too much into this Death Note different is good and all the actors are great!! This is what happens when you go into a movie with your own expectations when your expectation is not met than the movie is no good watch it with a clear mind in your own opinion and keep it to yourself

Sooooooo many people don’t like this movie just because it’s not an accurate representation of the manga series. I personally really enjoyed it because I knew this is a remake and I knew that it’s not going to be exactly like the mangas. I don’t know, I just don’t think that it was a bad movie over all. Don’t start with the hate comments please 🙂

I honestly don’t get why people are upset about the casting because it’s the same issue that was brought up when they cast a black girl as rue in the first hunger games movie. People were outraged that they hadn’t cast strictly according to the original book description of rue being white. I wasn’t upset at all and chose to look at the actress’ portrayal of the character and whether or not she did Rue justice. And she did.

Instead of immediately complaining that the main character of Death Note isn’t Asian like the anime, you should instead focus on the actor’s performance. That might be why they cast him for the part.

I know Japanese people suppose to be in this but I think the actors in this are perfect and sometimes actors have to get out of their comfort zone to play some roles

I wouldn’t mind if the actors didn’t look exactly alike for most anime movies. In fact, I wouldn’t mind having a black actor play L, except for the fact that the whole concept for his character, as stated by the creator, was pale with panda eyes due to insomnia. Also, L has exactly no temper. When he is struggling he gets depressed, not angry. L is my favorite character because of all his quirks and his completely emotionless demeanor. They are ruining that. Also, it appears the forgot: L NEVER FREAKING SHOWS HIS FACE IN PUBLIC!!! HE NEVER EVEN LETS HIS BODY BE SEEN ON TV!!! HE WOULDNT BE PART OF A NEWS BROADCAST!!! Also, where’s Watari? He’s really important to the story 😐

In my opinion it’s always hard to portray anime in real life. They never do well because of the expectations of the anime. In anime you can make things that aren’t real real through drawings. There is only so much you can do with CGI. Take for example avatar the last airbender, dragon ball z, and the mortal kombat series. They all seemed to flop because of their expectations in the hearts of the people that watched them as child and still watch today. All I’m saying is leave anime to the Japanese and let anime be anime not real life.

Set it in Japan not America! Leave Light’s surname as Yagami not Turner!

death note the live Japanese version is good 7.9 on IMDB. Death Note the Last Name was pretty damn unpredictable comparing to the anime series.

Honestly, why does L look like a ninja in this one?? but idk anyways this is an American adaptation. So technically no, it’s not really whitewashing it, but I do wish they included more asians in the cast. I also wish they could’ve found at least anyone else to play Light. But I’m still excited to see where this goes. It could actually be good despite the cast changes, who knows!!

Yeah the Netflix Death Note movie takes place in Seattle and Light’s last name goes from Yagami to Turner to Americanize it…you just need to go into it with a completely open mind and not compare it to the animé then you can like it as JUST a movie

At first I wasn’t happy with the cast and I felt like the acting wasn’t true to the anime. (For example Light’s personality) It also looked like a fanmade Death Note inspired kind of movie but this is a western version of the movie things are different in Japan than In America. Now I am excited and interested about something different. I want to give this a chance it looks good!

L has too much of a bulky build, L is not supposed to look strong and he does not show himself in front of the press.

I am actually fine with them not sticking 100% to the original, there are soooooo many remakes of DN already, and I am really interested in seeing a different take on this concept in a different cultural context. Sometimes new stuffs can be good. Oh god I hope they don’t fuck this up D:

I haven’t even watched all of the anime. I’ve probably watched like 5 episodes and I think the fact that the light from the movie didn’t have the whole God complex thing going on really changed the character, even from what little I’ve seen of him in the anime. I actually enjoyed the movie but the girl in the movie was really pissing me off and stressing me out.
