    Once Mello told Near of the existence of fake rules, figuring which is which was just a process of elimination. The original rules were plausible, you couldn’t test the first fake rule, which just leaves the second fake rule.

    When he said "Near, I win!" it was in his head. But the other talk was supposedly normal talk. With subtle underlying sarcastic tone that Near picked on. But no, Light wasn’t intending to give himself off verbally and directly this way.

    An anime that I would suggest you watching after Death Note would be Zetsuen no Tempest. It really good, its kind of a mystery and action anime, much like death note it involves a lot of deep thinking.
