The 6th GeGeGe no Kitaro series can get very dark and make you question its status as a children’s show, because these are things you wouldn’t normally show to kids. For example, episodes 7 and 25 both tackle suicide, with the former being the most frightening. Also there’s a horrifying body transformation scene in episode 22 with the art, animation and sound effects done in a way that you can clearly see (and maybe feel) how painful it is.

I would list every other dark subject this series tackles, but I don’t want to overdo this post. Now these episodes about social life are handled in a way so that children can understand them, but nothing is every sugar coated and thus it hammers the message down in the best way possible. Basically, aside from the Yokai, GGnK is showing how it’s like in the real world.

It’s suppose to aim at kids because of it’s kid like style type anime but except it can get a little dark at times especially with the recent episode that aired. ? Overall it’s a good show so far! ? I love anime that revolve around Yo-Kai Folklore!! ????

I grew up with GGGnK, so I’m very familiar with the series. It’s so historic and significant that they have a road dedicated to its creator (Shigeru Mizuki Road), and is home to numerous bronze statues of yokai and his other works. In addition, it gets a remake every decade, and this is the 6th remake.
It is rated G, but honestly, no, this is not "just for kids." Like others have said, the show tackles many real worldly issues like the bullying, consequences of greed, marriage fraud, pollution, suicide, and more.
Even if it isn’t your type of anime, there is definitely one episode you will love, at the VERY least. It is generally episodic, so as long as you know the plot, you can watch individual episodes that fit your style.

Just some recommendations for those that want to skip around the episodes for ones they may like:
Nature (Episode 4); Emotional, cat yokai (Episode 6); Horror, something to watch on Halloween night (Episode 7); Dreams, "escaping reality" (Episode 14); Insecurity of Appearance, need for plastic surgery (Episode 15); Mizuki Shigeru Road (Episode 17); Pacific War, a soldier’s memories (Episode 20); Marriage fraud (Episode 24), Cursing others to death, suicide (Episode 25).
If you’re looking for other themes and interests, comment them; I guarantee it will be covered in an episode.
